Dreadful rain in Gran Canaria....only 2 sunny days in a week. We were in a chalet and couldn't even get to the main hotel without being soaked in rain like stair rods. Absolutely freezing. Ten years later, have never been back to the Canary's and my friend only risked Tenerife this February.
I knew someone would say that. The fact is he is and was too easily dismissed as a player. The season before last, who was second in the player of the season vote (clue, it wasn't Schneiderlin!). Who won the Presidents award? I'm convinced its because of the way he runs, kind of like a baby giraffe, that people are so divided on him. Schneiderlin has a Beckenbauer quality to everything he does always looking elegant and yet efficient. Cork, by contrast, bounces around looking like he's going to lose control of the ball any minute. Ideally you want them both in a team. But then you have Wanyama and oh dear, here we go round the mulberry bush again. Anyway, ask Swansea if he is a squad player. He made a massive difference to them and if we'd had their points over the last 10 games or so, we'd have been in the top 4 (I just made that up by the way, don't know if its true).
He's not as good as Schneiderlin. Are you honestly saying that you think he even *might* be? In which case I would suggest a quick call to the docs as the Corkitis has flared up uncontrollably!
If I was writing on a blackboard I would use chalk. If I was wanting a quick snack, I'd favour cheese. Why do we always have these endless comparisons!? In what he did I thought he was the best in England (English) at the time (remember Cleverly was playing his role for England!). Schneiderlin being one of the best at what he did. All I was pointing out was that 2 seasons ago, Saints fans voted Cork's contribution higher than Schneiderlin's. Hope the doctors has a large waiting room
Because you made the comparison LFF and suggested he'd have been an adequate replacement!! Fortunately my perspective also seems to have been supported by a large selection of managers and coaches too, but selling Morgan and keeping Cork (as a replacement) would have been a serious downgrade.
We need to put the Cork argument back in its metaphorical bottle He wasn't first choice and didn't want to sit on our bench. Think everyone respects that and we would have lost him for free this summer if we didn't sell in January. Would he have done better than Alderweireld in midfield? Probably, but I think to suggest that would have made up the points difference between us and united is stretching it somewhat If/When we sell Morgan, then we will buy a replacement (Song/Clasie/Idrissa) who would be played ahead of Cork, so he would still be on the bench
Letting Cork go was a big mistake in my opinion. If I was offered Cork or Wanyama, I`d take Cork. Albeit they fulfil different roles.
Well, I didn't actually say that but I do think he'd have been good playing alongside Wanyama. The fact is you won't be able to replace Schneiderlin like for like for sensible money.
I don't think anyone can say that. We've not seen the likes of Clasie etc in our team (or whoever we get in to replace Morgan).
Morgan Schneiderlin, wanted by Manchester United and Arsenal Jack Cork, wanted by Swansea and Crystal Palace. But what the **** do they know.
We didn't let Cork go. We tried to sign him. He wanted first team football, and good for him. It was a tough situation. I liked Cork, but I also want to see us reach for the moon and get someone who could be potentially even more awesome than Schneiderlin. And I want to see Harrison Reed get a chance. So I think it worked out for everybody. Cork landed in a great place and I think he will continue to do well there. Swansea got themselves an absolute bargain and I like them so happy to see that work out. But I'm excited as well about maybe getting Clasie and watching Reed blossom.
We need to stop with these Cork hypotheses. I really liked him as a player, and I was gutted that he left. But he has gone, and we can't change that. The problem is, the more and more we argue about his role in the Southampton squad in comparison to Morgan/Vic/Reed etc, then the more our memories of his contribution to the cause become lost, muddled, and to a small extent ridiculed even (which is shockingly unfair). This is a real shame because he was an excellent player for us, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
Wanyama is so much better than Cork that I cannot even begin to understand this view. What Southampton had needed for years was an enforcer - and along came one of the game's biggest powerhouses in Wanyama. His football skills are undervalued too. I wouldn't swap Wanyama for 8 Corks.
I would imagine Saints would value Big Vic at the same price as Snidders, so would Arsenal pay £25m for him when they wouldn't shell out for arguably more complete midfielder? I think we know the answer so let's not worry that Arsenal will come along and Nick our players
No concerns there for me. Loved Jack Cork. I recall oh so well defend him on here during our championship season. My regular references to "our Nobby Stiles." I wish he would have stayed and fully admire his reasons for leaving. He knew he was behind Vic and Morgan and knew he'd be ahead of Leon Brittain. Happy memories but we want to progress. How many clubs fans would have been happy signing Jack Cork for their champions league push?
Likewise. Don't think for a minute I don't rate Cork or appreciate his contribution. I also completely respect his reasons for moving. Good man and a good player.
Is that a rhetorical question? Only I didn't notice palace getting saddled with Falcao. To name but one example.
