Why do you hate him so!? Granted he was a bit annoying during the RBR dominance, but he's a hell of a driver, and if you talk to people in the paddock, a lovely, funny bloke too (unlike some British drivers for instance...)

NASA would have been a must visit venue in the 1970-80's. Nowadays, people don't seem to give a toss, but it would be way up high on my list still. Boyhood memories of Gemini and Apollo projects.

He's also refreshing in that he's not interested in fuss and fame outside of racing (again, in contrast...)

There's a dolphin research place half way to key west from Miami which I thought would be good place to see them up close....at least they haven't caught any to use as they are rescue animals. I don't think I can avoid patronising some places that are involved with captive dolphins though, but I can certainly avoid the obvious culprits. It was Blackfish that really made my mind up about captive marine mammals, such a disturbing film.

    *hand up*
I do. The Enterprise is in New York City which I had absolutely no idea about until I was about 100m away from it. For geeks like me getting Apollo 13 back is still pretty much the pinnacle of all human achievement ever. I mean, the thing was blown to bits. And flying the wrong direction. And in ****ing space.

Has anyone else been watching 1864 which finished last night on BBC4? A truly sensational series set during the war between Denmark and the emerging German nation, a war which has been overlooked by English history due to its coinciding with the American Civil War. Unfortunately only the last two episodes are on the iPlayer but it's bound to be repeated as it was utterly brilliant. Stunning photography, great acting, and a chance to learn both Danish and German via the subtitles. Highly recommended if it is ever shown again.

    St Pete's is stunning.

If you've not been before and you're heading to the Keys, a stop in Miami could be good. Get down to have a wonder down south beach just to see the weirdos

I hate orcas in captivity. Watched a documentary year or two back and it is scandalous what happens to them.

Yeah, Blackfish is a real eye opener. When I was in the Phillipines we learned a lot about how even the tropical fish you see in tanks over here are 'stunned' with cyanide and shipped over. The cyanide is destroying the coral and the wider marine environment and creating real issues (alongside dynamite fishing and the wider issues of coral bleaching) so even tropical fish ownership is a big no-no.

I hadn't realised Busch Gardens was operated by the same people as Seaworld - good to know. I went there about 30 years back so I'll give myself that excuse!

Bugger it, I meant to. It looked rather good. Trouble is, as you know, as soon as I get a little hooked to the TV my instinct is to run because I don't like sitting around. Hopefully CouchTuner picked it up and I can download the episodes. I'm doing just that with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. Why do they put good stuff on in the Summer..? :)

To be fair, I think the pinnacle of all human achievement was Apollo 11 to 17 actually landing on the Moon and bringing all the astronauts safely back to Earth, but for a mission that went very badly wrong and was largely improvised, Apollo 13 takes the honours.

To put things into perspective, when a relatively humdrum mission went up, ie. Apollo 9, it included 11 space breaking things that had never been done before and all of them had to go right before the next mission could proceed. Kind of makes you think. It was an heroic era in many ways.

Daily Star are reporting the BBC are doing a U-turn and set to reinstate Clarkson as Top Gear host.

I think they're just guessing off the back of James May reiterating that Clarkson wasn't sacked and that he recorded an episode of QI recently (so they clearly don't hate him, as it were).

Space centre was on my list, but I'm going to have to miss it this trip as the ladies don't want to go.....I'm going out on a fishing charter instead so am already getting to do something relatively selfish.

Thanks for everybody's info, looks like I'm either going to have to stay for a month to fit everything in, or go back again......perhaps without the family next time <whistle>

No problem, the hysterical overreaction by the Skates was almost as amusing as the tower would be.
