That is my morning of labour over. Gave up when the sweat of my brow made the eyes sting. Maybe the Hornet shop could do a Premier sweat band that would stop that happening.

Just found a bottle of Banks bitter in the fridge and the tennis has just started. Feet up with a sandwich I think. :emoticon-0100-smile

I note from looking at one of the links to the Watford Observer that the Watford Operatic Society has folded after 90 years - maybe they concluded that they're no match for the 1881. I reckon we should all get together and have a go to see if we can get it up and running again!

Given the fickle nature of many Watford fans. Patience might an appropriate option... <whistle>

I'm just hoping that in a year's time people won't be viewing Slav as our very own Lt Pinkerton <yikes>

Check out BBC4 if you can - repeats of OGWT shows. Just had Elton singing Tiny Dancer, absolute classic

It is after an extreme day of heat that I love to be able to sit in the garden as the temperature becomes more reasonable. A chilled glass of white wine, watching the sun slowly sinking behind the trees down the lane and doing a spot of reflecting. There is not a sound anywhere and the only movement is from the bats as they sweep up and down to hoover up insects. As it is so light late in to the evenings now the street lights do not come on morning or evening. In some ways we have a simple life away from the hustle and bustle of the towns, yet my local history research shows that we have little idea of just how hard life once was. The loft of my barn was filled with very old hay when we first arrived. It seems that it was the communal store of rabbit feed during the war when little food was available. Yes I like the idea of a simple existence growing some of my own food, but would not like to have many of the modern means of communication removed.

I wonder if the Black Caps will do something at the ODI on Tuesday - black armbands would be pointless, maybe they could all have Collins on the back of their shirts instead of their own names and numbers.

Morning all... Mum in hospital here after a collapse in the middle of Friday night.... so all things up in the air again.. the joys of being 94 I guess.

didn't mention yesterday as was in and out of the hospital and worried sick... but seems a little better after a nights sleep

I must say the paramedic service is first class..portable ECG machines etc etc.. it all gets a bit of a long wait once you hit A & E.. .and of course you have to ask and ask.... One of the few things I would pay for privately if I could ever afford it would be for medical care... sad but true.... except dentistry which is a complete rip off

any way rant over.... and off to hospital a little later.

AK.... after long deliberation I would like to change my morning drink to a flat white coffee please... this is the closest to a grand crème in France and a cappuccino in Itally ( which is nothing like what coffee chains call cappuccino here.... just not the real thing).

One of the best coffees ever was a cappuccino in Venice train station standing up at the counter....

Sincerely hope your mum recovers quickly.

The best grand creme in France is at the Cafe Sport in Gaillac Tarn. Wish i was there now.

Hope all goes well with your Mum Yorkie.

Popped along for a loaf from the baker which is about 50% more in cost than the supermarket. However although I cannot say why, it tastes just so much better and of course there is the smell from the ovens.

The town camp site has been all spruced up ready for the July/August campers. There was some doubt as to it opening this year due to the disabled facilities not being up to standard and the commune bankrupt after central government removed a grant for the new village hall/sports centre. Not sure where they found the money, but the regional banks will help out on social needs and events, providing it is advertised that they were involved.

    Thanks Frenchie......

I have found that with bread.... for years we have been buying from the bakers van which comes to our village.... and just recently we have been buying bread from a artisan baker in a local time... and it has been superb.... as we know they regulate the standard bread prices in France... but once you go off piste so to speak you can buy some great bread.... they even bake great bread at our Aldi!

Good to see that the banks can invest some of their profit in social development... to be applauded
