The Mirror (i know) say Liverpool have turned their attention to Trippier after failing to sign Clyne. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-news-transfers-reds-turn-5833440
I feel all the current and former Southampton players that 'want to play Champions League' need to practice more on their 'rolling about on the ground feigning injury', 'waving imaginary cards at the referee' and 'surrounding the referee in true Manchester United-style after not getting a decision' skills, before they make the move up to that show piece tournament...
Apart from Pelle's dramatics which are amusing rather than aggressive, has any Saints player seriously argued with a ref this season? We will have to have lessons before we make that step up as a team.
Love it when Pelle does his dramatics at the officials. He reminds me of my Italian relatives having an argument.
He didn't from where I sit...I really don't like diving, it drives me crazy With Sadio in the team, Shane isn't a major focus. Sort Sadio out and then worry about Shane One step at a time
Apparently they have trouble on the telephone, because without hand gestures they are lost. I was being ignored trying to buy an ice cream in Venice, so I waved my arms in disgust, tossed my head dramatically and got served immediately.
I remember on a vary rare occasion that I actually watched a bit of a European game last season that Gary Neville congratulated Man City players for surrounding the ref after a desperate decision with a comment like "Ah they seem to be learning how to win in Europe, you have to play the game this way otherwise you'll get nowhere" Be interesting to see how we develop with a run in the Euro's
That's another thing to admire about Messi, is that he stays on his feet. Sadio seems to be improving on that score. The antics of Neymar & Suarez after the handball incident last night, had me cheering for Juve for the last ten minutes
Never really been bothered about diving, it is a very British thing to get pissed off about it, in a lot of other countries it is encouraged and seen as an art form.
Well, seeing as we invented the bloody thing, in the spirit of sportsmanship [this is pretty much the sort of thing the phrase refers to] they expect players to do the decent thing and play well within the rules. Not see how far they can bend them before a bloke blows his whistle and cries 'foul'. The whole point is to play the game. Not spend 90 minutes seeing what you can get away with.
It is interesting the different attitudes towards diving. In England the player gets berated for doing it, in some other countries the ref gets criticized for falling for it and the player called clever. I don't really have strong opinions either way, it is at the stage now where it is going to be virtually impossible to stop. And if England really clamp down on it and successfully stamp it out at youth level which then will filter through to the pros in years to come, they will be at a disadvantage internationally as other countries will continue to do it.
I entirely see your point, believe me. However, I can see it easily stamped out. There's too much instant technology out there and retrospective judgement which could make it a largely forgotten issue in say... 5 or 10 years time. Only needs the will and a decent FIFA.
Yeah if there was a global clamp down on it then it could be stamped out, but I don't think the majority of other countries are anywhere near as bothered about it as in the UK so won't be forcing the issue about getting rid of it.
