Morning. I've just missed the poll closing; can I register a late vote for Max, sorry, Lewis, please? I'd be much obliged
Vettel and Massa should provide some excitement tomorrow as they try and scythe through, and Raikkonen appears to have finally qualified well enough to put his race pace to good use, particularly if he can jump Rosberg off the line.
Not a good day for Vettel... Canadian GP: Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel penalised for red flag pass Formula 1 stewards have given Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel a five-place grid penalty and three penalty points on his licence for overtaking under red flags in Canadian Grand Prix practice. Vettel was already only 15th on the grid having struggled with a power-sapping problem in Q1. He was summoned to the stewards for passing Roberto Merhi's Manor during the late red flag in practice three prompted when Jenson Button's McLaren ground to a halt on the exit of Turn 7. Vettel was following Merhi back to the pits when he overtook the rookie on the long straight towards the final chicane. Although Vettel had argued that the Manor appeared to have a problem as it was moving at such a slow speed, the officials felt a penalty was necessary. His will be among several penalties affecting the Montreal F1 grid and race. Max Verstappen, who was 12th fastest, faces a combined grid demotion of 15 places between his five-spot penalty for colliding with Romain Grosjean in Monaco and a further 10 for exceeding his 2015 engine allocation. Button - who was unable to run at all in qualifying - also believes he will have to take a penalty due to the repairs being carried out on his McLaren following its practice failure.
This serving a penalty in the race if you cant meet the grid penalty seems pretty rubbish, why ruin the entertainment? If you're going to insist on being draconian about it then they should have the likes of Jenson start all the way back at the hairpin for comedy effect.
I'm probably wrong here, but I think that might be Raikkonen's best qualifying performance since Spa 2009. As you can see, he struggled to control his emotions afterwards. please log in to view this image
Counting on the Finn to do wonders tomorrow. Why do Sky insist on still talking about the Monaco GP, their god Lewis has declared he wants to move on himself.
Thank you. It felt like the BBC spent the first half-hour of the quali programme doing the same; ****ing tedious, what can there possibly be left to say? It's not as if it was complicated in the first place and there can't be anyone left who cares that doesn't already know all about it.
Trying to make a drama out of a non-story. Both Sky and BBC are revolting at times. I don't even watch the pre-shows anymore and just switch off after all the cars have crossed the line.
It's true, yesterday I just switched off from it mentally so that when quali actually started, I wasn't even paying attention. It has become a kind of epidemic across the media though, repeating anything vaguely contentious over and over ad nauseam, but TV is particularly bad for this. I realise that the aim is to hook as many viewers as possible even if they have turned on halfway through, but it's really irritating if you've actually been following the thing.
