Nail... Head... Hit @Albert's Chip Shop you didn't see him last season as we did. We watched him this season as a former player. No Sunderland fans think he is any better than he was. We don't think he's any worse and we don't think he's a poor player. His passing hasn't improved and his vision hasn't improved. He's an ok player in apoor team no? Admittedly you've. Seen more of him than we have but then we saw much more last season than you did.
Come to think of it Newcastle have the best coach in the country so maybes Jack is a world beater now ??
John Carver should be delivering Rington's Tea, there's a van in it for him.. Jack Colback with Carver's grooming will be in India, making ****ing Rington's tea.. This isn't a slur on Rington's btw, I'm talking about a couple to Teabags here, nothing more..
Just dig the kid's stats out. He's the same player so it's more objective than comparing two players. I'm not a fan of stats usually but in this case they should go some way to solving this debate.
Not really given he's taken nearly all the mags free kicks, corners and played large spells at left back there's no accurate comparison. Not to mention he's had way more playing time this season than last and the fact that Pardew built his tactics to play the ball through him where as we didn't so it's almost certain that he's seen more of the ball. There's no Comparison Matrix that allows that kind of filtration and there's just too many factors to make it worth it imo.
Not tying him down earlier was down to the managers not being sure just what they wanted from him. He was at LB for long enough but he had demonstrated he had midfield football ability. We did not sure much faith in him so it is none the wonder he moved on.
True, I dont think the Mags knew just how good a player he was when they signed him, you can excuse them for that, but you cant excuse our decision makers who obviously couldn't spot his potential.
If you want an example of his vision then watch him set Jonas free for him to cross to Sissoko. He has a good eye for a pass, breaks down play pretty well too. Tidy player, Thanks
Who cares? He moved on. If 4 days' extra relegation battle is "better things" then good luck to him...
The argumentative people may say that quite a few of you folk are still a bit bitter to Wor Jack, judging by the amount of comments made by your lot. Not me, I'm not an argumentative lad. I'm just saying, like......
I'm not bitter mate. I thought Jack was a handy player for us. No world beater, but good enough to want to keep, so when we didn't keep him I was a bit narked. Since he was a mag as a kid I can understand him going to your lot, but for obvious reasons that makes him a complete kernt. He gets commented on on here whenever he opens his gob, just like Bruce. Popular with us they ain't...
I agree, I think that's why they've convinced themselves that he's improved massively since the move.
I wouldn't dismiss it mate, I've just had a look and nigh-on every score is better for this season. I think a lot of it is down to style of play, he's maybe not a better player at Newcastle but I reckon their style is suiting his game a lot better. He is far from a Cabaye replacement but he's a lot more pivotal to their team than the bench warmer they all thought he would be. As for Larsson wiping the floor with him, computer says no on that front as well. It's a lot tighter than that with Colback edging it in most areas you'd want a midfielder. Having said that, leaving stats aside, Larsson seems to graft a lot harder and I'd imagine he covers a lot more ground than Colback, he seems more 'team' orientated than Colback and that selflessness probably shows in his stats for this year.
Well pardew played the ball through him, while last season we had Ki for that so Colback will have seen way more of the ball this season so I bet he has played more passes this season. I bet the Passing accuracy will be very very similar. His time at left back will have cotributed to more tackles, interceptions and blocks. While taking all the freekicks and corners will have led to significantly more chances created and key passes as squawka don't separate crosses, corners and free kicks, so a missed header from one of his corners count as a Key pass and chance created. I bet he's done better everywhere on paper but you have to try and balance it. Like I say, always a guide, never the full story. I wish I could get an Opta subscription.
