I started going there in the late 70s cos elder family members used it.

For a punk used to back street boozers and gigs in Church Halls it was another world.

    I ****ing loved it.

I am in the same fraternity as the prince of Monaco. I have never met the guy but a couple old brothers in their 80s went there on a vacation and walked up to where he lives and told the guard that they were in his fraternity and he came out and took photos with them.

It's a weak claim to fame as I have never met him or anything and really every fraternity has a big list of famous people who are members.

I've been in Phil Browns house.

    Twice.

Second time I was shouting up to him as he brushed his teeth whilst he was getting ready to go on the lash.

    It was quite surreal.

Saw Wayne Sleep on the tube in London.
Saw Norman Collier in some motorway services.
Beaten Rick Witter at pool and recorded with Alan Leach in his studio.
Played at Reading Festival, camped with Phil Mitchell on one side and The Wildhearts on the other, beaten Gaz Coombes at pool.
Got someone to fix a lift for Willie Thorne in a hotel in Blackpool.
Had a few drinks with Sam Dingle, saw Nick Cotton.
    Other stuff.

I Argued with Paul Robinson about who was going in goal at a kickabout on a field in Beverley in the mid 90's.

Bastard, he won, it could have been me

I used to go the Westfield a lot, some friends owned it, there was a mixed bag of stuff in there, you could go to a posh dinner dance one night, then the next night Bernard Manning would be on.

Played pool with Richard Harris in Queens on Newland Ave one Friday afternoon.

Needless to say it was booze fuelled and it got a bit weird after about 10 pints plus chasers when I put MaCarthur Park on the jukebox.

I left him in there quoting scenes from The Lion in Winter to a couple of other alchos.

You can't buy those sort of memories.

I met Manny from the Stone Roses at Manchester Airport.

I was drunk, he didn't care for a weird kid pestering him for a photo & wanted to get away. True story.

    Them were the days.

I got many a free pint in Darlington, Middlesbrough and Sunderland when people would mistake me for Dave Allen (the Comedian now, sadly, deceased). I could put the Irish accent on with no problems but it was difficult to explain why the tip of my forefinger wasn't missing when people became suspicious.
Photo of Dave and (insert) me the night before I left for England taken in Piper Club.

I didn't think it was a typo, I thought it was very funny in a clever sort of way. It was in keeping with something Dave Allen would have said.
