Yeah, I'm celebrating too. But you won't ease my mind about spending, mate. I've seen too many Third Lanarks, too many Dundees. too many Heart of Midlothians, too many Accrington Stanleys, too many Bournemouths, too many Middlesbroughs, too many Portsmouths ever to swallow the 'Splash the cash' or 'Dig deep' idiots on SAFC boards. I'm committed to Sunderland AFC surviving forty years from now. The last thing I want is an article in the Echo saying 'Does anyone remember when Sunderland had a league football team?' No thanks. I think this might be a good time - a time when SAFC found some 'football men' who actually remembered what £1 was worth. I'm a Short man. I'm a Congerton man. I'm an Advocaat man. And you will never convince me of anything else. The pounds have to add up to a product - that's my bottom line, mate. Sorry if it offends anybody.
This. This. And this again. We cannot overspend. We need to be better in how we spend. Quality. Look at Newcastle a few years ago. Cabaye, Ba, debuchy etc. Bought small, they did well, sold big. We have spunked a load of cash on ****e. To many men with little knowledge spending on ****e. Only one who did quite well was Bruce. I firmly believe short has clubs best interests at heart. He wobbled a hit with Di Fanti and Di canio, but he was quick to weild the axe and bring in the peoples favourite at the time. Now with Congers I think we have a proper football man who can make the right choices. Traded altidore for Defoe! Got in DA after Poyet went in a suicide run, and managed to convince dick to come back. Couple this with a proper summer of signing, and we could have turned that corner. Sure it may be for a year. But if we finish mid table to makes us alot more attractive to the next guy, which means we might be able to get some more quality. Slippery slope upwards. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
£50 million is being bandied about and that seems about right. For the record, with the increased revenue, if we made the same as this year commercially etc and spent £50 million, we'd make a profit. The comparisons to Portsmouth etc are understandable, but probably not a realistic worry at £50million, the TV deal is covering that, basically. Key thing is a ball playing CM, and i'm utterly confident a Dutch man with great experience knows his was around a quality CM, they've not struggled in that area have they? Wonder is he's pals with Sneijder or summat, haha.
Morgan Sanson - £10m should prize him away from Montpellier. One of the most intelligent players I've watched on the ball for his age in that league, bits of Luca Modric to him in my opinion.
Aye I've noticed him too mate, I can see what you mean with the Modric thing although he's maybe a bit less attack minded. Lovely space spotter, if thats the right word, he'll go along way I reckon. Great shout mate.
He's calm on the ball mate, seems to know where his pass is going before he's got the ball. That's the type of player I love, I enjoyed watching Scholes do it for years. I think he'll add goals to his game if he stays another year at Montpellier, which let's face it, he probably will.
The income from the Premier League 16th Position seems to be £66.95 million. If you add Sponsorship, Gate Money and Season Tickets plus The Club Store profits and anything we get for the use of the Stadium for Concerts etc then start taking off wages to Players and Staff being the largest outgoings then add all other Overheads then £50 Million in the Transfer Pot would seem to be perfectly reasonable The thing that also must be noted is that Prize money starting the 16-17 season increases to a minimum of £100 million per club dependant on finishing position,so investment for this coming season is paramount to try and ensure that we are in the running for that increased revenue.
plus add the extra tv money for televised appearances and commercial revenue which is going up year on year from banqueting and overseas incentives.
He needs to go out and buy: Van Dijk Milner Van persie Januzaj Apart from Milner the dutch connection should make that possible although not at all easy. Probably get the above for less than 50m, getting thrm to come would be the hard part.
Has Monty stolen your password? Milner's already joined the scrap heap of ****e in Merseyside by the way
Only realistic one to buy is Van Dijk. As mentioned Milner is off to Liverpool. Van Persie's wages are ridiculous, Januzaj possibly on loan.
Just got on - I was in the car driving away from a guitar shop in Newcastle when Adrian Durham said dick had changed his mind!! Just my ten pence worth - He's got a one year deal - I reckon Short knows who he wants but they have a year left on their contract before he can get them without having to pay a fee. Advocaat solidifies us in the PL (mid table ish) and then this other manager comes in after next season to hopefully push us on! It's a dream I know but it's certainly what I would like. Guessing Short and Congerton have some persuasion in them to change Advocaat's mind - guess the press were all full of **** with their stories about him going to Belgium
Agree with malrap and gonads here. Given that we spent around £23 - £26 million on Bent and Gyan some five years ago the higher earnings today would justify £50m. But what I am enthusiastic about is that - for the first time in years - we have two guys who will spend it on improving our quality, rather than blowing it on ten doses of mediocrity. And whilst Bruce did sign well in my view, he could never keep them. I can't imagine Gyan telling the press "It's a bit disorganized, and I'm not too happy there" with Advocaat in charge, can you? No, these are reasonable figures we're hearing now, and likely to be sensibly spent. There's no way this will take us down the Portsmouth/Hearts road. It looks good.
Is £50m a guess or has somebody from the club said £50m? If somebody from the club has said £50m then there's your first mistake, before you even sign anybody. You could sign 4/5 free agents and fork out half of that in signing on fees and agents fees, but most importantly the guys you bring in simply have to be prepared to graft in this league or it's just money down the drain. Few of you lot got excited about Zarate last summer, the guy's a ****ing joke and has barely kicked a ball for that reason, this season. DA looks like he can sniff out a good player, he's been around the block enough times to spot a dickhead as well no doubt.
This is my take mate, we know who we want to follow him. I strongly fancy it might be Cocu, in that he will have his crack at the CL then move on, good coach will want to leave Holland for a higher calibre league but why wouldn't he take a shot at the CL first given the season they just had? This makes sense to me on all levels.
All speculation from what I can see. The club have never, in all of Short's time, said we have x amount yo sound. I doubt they'll say it now. Conger ton, short and Advocaat will know how much. Most others will be guessing!
