not really. they were what they were. their talents are there to be seen for all. there's nothing worth with them until they are judged up against the level we WANT to be at (not the level we are actuall at btw) same as downing or carroll.. grand for a little spell at west ham, can't sustain it.
from a City fan "He was undoubtedly one of our best performers this season and the last. Liverpool are getting a top class player. He and Kompany are City's only two just-below-top-tier signings who have shown a steady upward curve of improvement since they arrived. Playing with Silva, Zabaleta, Aguero and Yaya has added a dimension to his game that is hard to find in contemporary English midfielders - imo he's the only one who understands the short-passing game and how you can use passing triangles to create overloads in the flanks. He will be a loss for City. No doubt about that."
Dirk Kuyt Version 2 - I'm happy with the signing. We still need strength, and Milner is not the full answer. But he ****s over our midfield alternatives at the moment and we're not gonna sign the Mullers of this world at the moment
It's all perception. Their performances at Soton was good enough for that club. The same performances at Liverpool are not good enough. It's a massive step up.
Captain? He has no leadership qualities, and by all accounts, he's shy and quiet on and off the pitch. Fans didn't make the Boring Milner Twitter account for nothing! Ha
I think he is an effective but inconsistent wide midfielder. I'm not so sure about him as a central midfielder though, surely there's a reason he's continuously shunted wide by club & country. Bit like the Ryan Babel situation, in a way.
Common misconception that Milner is a very good central midfielder. He had one good season in that role (correct me if I'm wrong) at Villa which was 5 years ago. No evidence that he can a) play that role well and b) play that role at a big club. I do think he's a good player to have in the squad but making him the highest paid player at LFC is ridiculous considering he's merely a utility player at a top 4 club. And there is no way I would give him the captaincy. Just because he's hard working and 'professional' is no reason. I want players who stand up and have bottle, to be the captain. Milner is quiet and timid on and off the pitch.
He's basically Henderson. That's it. A good all round midfielder with stamina and work rate. Nothing spectacular that'll win you games on a consistent basis. I dunno why we don't give a match winner like Sterling that or give Skrtel a sensible contract if we're throwing that money at Milner.
And we basically lost the PL a couple of seasons ago because we only had 1 Henderson and he got banned
No we didn't. We lost because we were impatient in a game we only needed a draw and let frustration get the better of us. And then we got ahead of ourselves when we were 3-0 up against Crystal Palace, though the damage was all done in the Chelsea game.
