I'd really like us to do this next season. Have Dove House or summat along those lines on our shirt.

They've signed 4 players already for next season. Robins is going for it. Also we should sign Adelakun.

SCUNTHORPE United have agreed to waive shirt sponsorship money in favour of raising awareness of prostate cancer next season.

The Iron will wear the Prostate Cancer UK logo on the front of their home and away shirts for the 2015-16 campaign.

The one-year deal with the charity ends eight seasons of Rainham Steel being the club's main shirt sponsor.

Statistics show one man dies from prostate cancer every hour and United officials said they wanted to help the fight against the disease.
Iron chief executive Jim Rodwell said: "It is a cause we feel very strongly about.

"I think Prostate Cancer UK does excellent work on what is ultimately a killer disease.

"Hopefully, this will be our last season at Glanford Park and we wanted to do something special to commemorate that.

"The owners have met the people from Prostate Cancer UK and appreciate the work they do and as a gesture, they agreed to let them publicise the cause."

Mr Rodwell confirmed no money would change hands as part of the deal, with United allowing the charity to display its logo on next season's kits for free.

He said: "It is free of charge as a donation from the football club to Prostate Cancer UK.

"We are waiving the sponsorship money.

"We have agreed to do it for one season and it is to raise awareness in Scunthorpe and nationally.

"I think the work Prostate Cancer UK has done has saved lives.

"If we can publicise it and encourage men to get themselves checked out, we will be absolutely delighted by that."

Legendary Liverpool and England goalkeeper Ray Clemence, who began his professional career with Scunthorpe, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 and is a Prostate Cancer UK ambassador.

And Mr Rodwell said he was high in the club's thinking when deciding they wanted to help the charity.

He said: "I know that the chairman and Ray Clemence are friends and he was at one of our games towards the end of the season.

"I wouldn't want to embarrass Ray but he was in our psyche and he is an ambassador of Prostate Cancer UK, so there is that link as well."

Mark Bishop, the charity's director of fundraising, said: "With world football making the front pages in recent weeks, and not for the right reasons, it's great to be able to deliver such a positive story about how the beautiful game can make a real difference.

"At the end of a season in which our iconic Man of Men logo adorned the back of every Football League player's shirt, this is a really exciting development ahead of the 2015/16 campaign and we look forward to kicking off this new relationship in what is a special season for the club.

"We're incredibly grateful to Scunthorpe United and to chairman Peter Swann and his family for their support in this exciting project.

"To have donated the shirt sponsorship this season is a major commitment and we are relishing this fantastic opportunity to make an impact both locally and nationally.

"It's another timely milestone in our ground-breaking work within the beautiful game, allowing us to stand side by side with a club that has really bought into the values of Men United.

"Just last month, the club's mascot Scunny Bunny ran the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK, raising money and awareness.

"We're also proud to have a man with big Scunthorpe connections, Ray Clemence, as one of our ambassadors.

"Ray has spoken openly – and regularly – about his own personal experience of the disease and only a few weeks ago worked with us at our second annual golf day, when he linked up with another former Iron legend, Kevin Keegan.

"Their bond after all these years epitomises everything about Men United and how getting together with your mates to do something great can make a real difference."

"Men United is about men joining together to fight a common opponent – prostate cancer.

"One man dies every hour from this disease but it's been proven by taking this issue to terraces up and down the land that we are starting to make a difference."

I get pi**ed off with people having a go with Scunny, its a place that has been ignored by Whitehall, much like Hull, its at the end of the line so to speak and has lost a lot of industry, mainly centred around steel production and now Tata who own the steel plant want even more cuts. Yes the place is a bit of a mess in places and the 'city' centre is nothing to shout about. But like all of these out of the way places they have their better areas, Grimsby is the same (they have lost a fishing industry) it just seems that although Hull is getting a better press these days places like Scunny (and Grimsby the emphasis on Grim folks) still get it in the neck.

Well said ref - I just retired after nearly 40 years at British Steel/Corus/TaTa; pre-recession and the demise of the building industry Scunthorpe was a **gritty, but bustling town, since the recession the steel-works has failed to win the massive investment needed to drag it's infrastructure into the 21st Century - TaTa have spent lots of money but, not in the right places and not enough of it, the ''works'', like every other UK manufacturing company has had no help from government of any persuasion i.e. government tenders for industries requiring steel have, in most cases, been awarded abroad. I think Scunthorpe and the steel industry has a future but it may have to suffer the woes of Corby and other one industry towns.

**the cult classic film, Get Carter, was from the Ted Lewis novel ''Jack's Return Home'' the book actually portrays Scunthorpe and not the North East as portrayed in the film .................... not many people know that!

I think the imminent national steel strike may well herald the end of steel production in Scunny & for that matter many other Tata sites in the UK, but failing that Scunny appears doomed in the next few years as it seems unlikely that there will be the multi million pound investment needed for the plant to meet emission regulations

Aye, PHD in Genetics. Science for these particular fields is pretty poor in terms of contracts. Relies solely on private funding for research, hers is just about at an end. Very short term contracts in science - though she has been involved in this research for quite a while probably 7-8 years.
