Really pleased to hear this news. Hard working player who has served City well over the last few years. Can be relied on to nick a few goals over a season as well <applause>

If our centre midfield is to be him & Whitts, god help us.

The drive of a sloth and the speed of a snail.

Gunnar would be absolutely fine if he had a proper centre mid next to him. Whitts is a brilliant player but he's never been and never will be a centre mid.

All about having the right balance. A good defensive mf would give Gunner licence to roam. Where he will be effective as in the past.

Good to keep him on board.

Gunnar has been a warrior for us in the past, but I feel it is time for a change. Disappointed by the news.

Gunner 's only 26 so many more years ahead of him.

Needs to be used in right formation to be completely effective.

He is a battler and that attribute is vital in our league.

Also, extension to contract means a bigger fee should another club come calling.

Aye, it'll probably frighten off Man City and Chelsea..........................<laugh>

Seriously though, always liked Gunnar for his attitude. That has never changed since he's been with us, but his lack of pace is a serious problem.

Combine that with Whitts' lack of pace and you find the root of our midfield problems.

I cannot believe that Slade will go with Gunnarsson and Whittingham again together in central midfield - every opponent took advantage of this terrible pairing to control the game.

If Slade could not see that and pairs these 2 up again, then god help us for next season.

The post is about Gunnarsson yet it is a fact that Whittingham missed 3 games last season and you know what, City won all 3 of them without him.

I would go for a completely new midfield unit with only Ralls to feature. O'Keefe and Dikajcoi aren't good enough. City so desparately need a ball winning dominant holding midfielder, a pacy runner, and an accomplished creative player. Whittingham could fit the latter but Slade won't go 4-5-1. If he goes 4-4-2 and pairs up G&W then as I say, we will be doomed to another lack lustre season.

I do like Gunnar and have said so before over the last three years - he's not necessarily the problem.

It's Slade's apparent unshakeable belief in his own ability that's the real issue at the club. He sees the game through the eyes of a lower reach journeyman manager who in truth would have achieved some form of success in his twenty years down there if he was any good at it, let alone the Championship.

He looks uncomfortable at this level, and despite the well publicised "togetherness" soundbites from players and staff last season, will not think outside the box like a progressive Championship manager should.

He's retaining and building a side in his own image, and that's dour, workmanlike and lacking in creativeness. We'll wait and see who he brings in in the summer, but my guess it'll be more of the same on the pitch whoever they are. I'll be very surprised if we finish top half if Slade isn't elbowed before it gets too late.

Hed be a fine in a 3 man central midfield alongside players with pace.

    Whitts also.

The both of them together as a midfield 2 then weve got trouble.

I dont think the club has any ambitions for a challenge at the top end. Therefore im happy to have Gunner as at least he has some fight about him if the worse happens and we are in the middle of a relegation scrap. I think he needs to lose weight though. Seems bigger which has reduced his mobility and he spends a lot of the time on the deck. Needs to cut out the weights if thats whats bulked him up.

It seems Tan's primary obsession is with the Sarajevo team who are in the knock out stages of the champions league

Well so will TNS (I think) and they'll get as far as Sarajevo. So when they get knocked out, presumably he'll sack their manager, and ditch that club and look for either a new club to promote or concentrate on City or his Belgian team.

I suspect he has given up City as a lost cause (due to the fans criticism and failure to hold onto PL status), and is draining it. Madness really as he's never going to offload it and get anywhere near his investment back unless he invests more money in City to include getting in a dynamic manager and squad.

Problem was he never turned his debt into equity. Consequently to him it seems a few hundred million is neither here nor there.

It seems 2015-16 is going to be as torrid, dull and as disappointing as last season.
