The Black Cats announced today that Advocaat will pen a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light after initially opting to reject the club’s advances and retire from club football. The 67-year-old’s return to the Stadium of Light is a huge boost to the Black Cats after both supporters and the club’s hierarchy had been desperate for Advocaat to commit his future to the club. And in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf today, Advocaat revealed why he was heading back to Wearside. He said: “The club kept calling. The owner would not let go. “I have decided to sign a new deal. They think I’m still fit enough and personally I also feel that I am still fine. And it’s a wonderful club. Dick Advocaat “They think I’m still fit enough and personally I also feel fine. “And it’s a wonderful club “Sunderland should have a team which is good when the Premier League begins. “The owner is willing to make resources available and it’s nice to be able to build a team now in preparation (for next season).”
£50m in the right hands can transform any team, I'm confident the money IS in the right hands and very excited for the new season now.
You and me both brother! Looking back when we got fletch and Johnson I was a kid in a candy store. Pffft how underwhelming that is now.. With a powerful dick in charge we'll explode into the new season! Full stiffs ahead
Very good news, a manager who knows our squad and its weaknesses is just what we need, but lets not get carried away, this is one hell of a tough league and staying in it is by no means easy, but with a bit of stability and gradual improvements to the squad in terms of strength and quality we should be in a good position when it comes to attracting DA's eventual successor, well done to all concerned, the excitement is building already, what a week for good news.
Buying is one thing offloading is another....Bridcutt, Buckley, Brown, Alvarez, Fletcher, Graham, Gomez, Coates Giac Vergini all can be sold to make 2 ay for some decent quality players who should be in the starting 11 automatically.
Exciting times ahead well done to our much maligned (by me most of the time) board for keeping at it haway!
