Jay Bothroyd (unsurprisingly) also linked with NUFC has just been 'snapped' up by QPR for £2Million .. so he's now not going to pull on a black & white shirt, thank christ ..

Hopefully Pulis can pull his finger out of his Carlton Cole and get his deal done as well ...

He's now not going to play in a b&w shirt.

Weird. I misread it like you did as well.

I misread it at first as well. Bothroyd is alright if he was a back-up striker (like real back-up) but glad we've not gone for him

Like Lambiarse says - signing on fees are through the roof for quality players.....so yeah, he should have been free.

Are Chelsea still looking for £20 Million quid for Sturridge .. that's way over the odds for one decent season on loan with Bolton (don't throw AC at me .. Kenny is lighting his cubans with dollars at the moment) .. especially considering that another ex Chelsea goalscoring starlet that's potentially signing with Stoke wouldn't get shat on these days around here ..

It has been rather quiet on the forward front though .. come on Pards .. chuck us a scrap of info to get our teeth into for a few days <ok>

TBF, it's not as if Cole had a record of just under 1 in 3 for England Under-21s, is it? Oh, dear God <yikes>

I can't see them holding out for that much. I reckon it would be around £15 mil (obvs just guessing) and I think he's worth it. He stands out as the best player for both the under-21s and Bolton, and hasn't looked out of place at Chelsea or City either. Versatile, target man, quick(ish), skilful and knows where the net is. In a few years he'll be one of the best in the EPL

Completely agree! Look at Hernandez who was £8m..£10m at the most for Sturridge or with Chelsea's problems after losing Essien....how about Mr. Versatile James Perch and £1m?

  16. Yep. I only think he's worth 15 mil max, but since there's like no one else we can get as good as Sturridge, or has the potential of Sturridge, i think we should just pay the 20 million IMO.

    1. because of what i've already said, there aren't many more options and we've failed to sign our other targets.

    2. because we've spent next to nowt and lost nothing. We've got 3 free players, and bought and sold players for around 5 million, so we have cash to splash. I'd like to see some money spent. I'm sick of the cheapest options all the time. Sturridge is a bit of a gamble, but i'll be pissed if we sign just two unproven, cheap foreign strikers.

    3. Sturridge has shown his ability to score. Some people think half a season isn't really proven, but Carroll went for 35 million and he's about as proven as Sturridge. Sturridge isn't the aerial threat Carroll was, but he's better on the ground and if he scores around 12-15 goals in his first season, which i could see him doing seeing as he managed 8 goals in about 14/15 games for Bolton, he would have been worth it.

He could be the next big thing, and i'd pay the 20m for him after thinking about it. If we get Sturridge and Rondon i'd pee myself.

I would pay 20 mil for him but I want to know why Pardew has no interest him but wants to offer new contracts to people like Ameobi. We need to take risks because we only have 2 good strikers and at tge moment there are not many quality strikers available.

Not only Pardew .. the only reports I've seen (or I remember seeing) was Stoke showing some interest, and Bolton wanting him back on loan .. unless there's some ploy here for a club to try and get a bargain on the last day or something .. just doesn't seem to be the stampede for his signature for some reason .. (although I'm not doing so well on the detail in this thread, so happy to be corrected) <ok>
