Apparently it is a done deal.
I'll give him my support and wish him well.
Not as sexy as Vieira but a massive step up from Carver.
I'd put him on par with Pardew but without the violent touchline assaults.

It looks like Graham Carr has massive sway with Ashley. Very chummy with Schteeve by all accounts and has been pushing hard for him to get the gig. Ill support the guy, but I foresee more mediocrity and another apologist for Penfold and the Fat Man!!

He is better than pardew IMO, I said a few months ago I would be okay with him it's just a Shame that the viera option gave us all something to be excited about.
We all need to try and back him for 12 months at least as if not we will look like morons with the national media who continue to think we are gutted Inepdue has gone.
The next big question is how much will be backed in the transfer market ?

You're not getting a 'manager' though are you? You're specifically advertising for a head coach.

You're getting one of the best head coaches going. Forget about his persona, his CV runs rings around that chump Pardew.

Agree with this. I think McLaren is going to be a breath of fresh air. Hopefully he will also get involved with youngsters and bring a few of these through.

How can it possibly be a step backwards - we have just had Carver for half a season?.

It gets worse by the day, not content with 2 losers as first choice there is now talk of bringing Lee Clark onto the coaching staff. He may be a nice lad but let us remember his last 2 jobs. Could hardly win a game with Birmingham and was sacked with them in the mire, ( New manager saved them ) then came Blackpool and they were relegated, also with hardly winning a game. ( I know they are a basket case ). How is that going to improve our current useless bunch of coaches?

This is about the only possible saving grace with Schtevie. The main problem still remains Charnley (and Tubb's, of course) and the sheer, breath taking, ineptitude of him and his sniveling minions ...JC, Stone etc.

Not sure that Lee Clark's possible appointment bothers me. At this stage I don't care who comes in as manager / head coach / tea lady. I just want them in so we can get passed all this speculation and get on with player recruitment. There are 5 days until the window opens and it's imperative that we have somebody who's not Carver in charge by that point.

What the hell is happening on the 9th June that I was thinking that date?

Still the new boss should be in by the 9th!

Won a league title, won a trophy and got to a European cup final. All of which were firsts for those clubs. What have Newcastle actually done over that period?

Coached us to an unprecedented treble in 1999 for a start.

Don't get me wrong, there's better managers out there, but you're specifically looking for a 'head coach' to work with a squad that will be assembled by your scout and other staff for some reason... that's the way it is though, in terms of head coaches you're gonna get nobody better.

If you were going after a manager to build a side, I'd probably agree that he's not the right candidate, you could probably do better, but you guys aren't employing a manager to do that.

I don't think we'll be signing Patrick Bamford, SM stifled his progress by playing him wide and when boro beat Derby with a solitary Bamford goal, bamford had said that's what you get when you play me in my correct position.

    That's why he's the wally :emoticon-0136-giggl
