But Brazil put on a successful World Cup and how they use their Legacy stadiums is up to them. Nothing's really going to change and signed contracts will still be honoured unless anyone can prove criminal intent. Qatar will continue in their stadia constructions and everything will just keep rolling on.
Money and status is everything out there mate, and life is cheap, especially poor Asian life. What's happening out there is obscene! 1,200 dead already! It's a damned disgrace! I don't hear too many complaining about it though, which is even more disgraceful.
That's difficult. A few days ago, I posted (either on this thread or another) a question about needing to know the reason for the bribes. Did those countries enter into those bribes unasked, or did they pay those bribes because they knew they'd get nowhere with FIFA without it? In other words, who originally instigated the corruption? If corruption was so endemic in FIFA that nobody would get a World Cup without it, then I think those countries should be recompensed. If they were all in it together and it was a common culture to start with, then that's their problem. I've no sympathy for them in that case. I think that's a valid point. Personally, I suspect the culture of corruption originated with FIFA officials. I don't believe South Africa, for example, would have needed to pay bribes if the whole thing was a level playing field. I think with Mandela and Tutu batting for them, they'd have won it by common consent. So I suspect they were pushed into paying bribes by FIFA's crooked system. But I could be wrong.
Won't the fbi suck up any involved money anyway? And then the counties with failed genuine bids claim costs?
No ones accused the Qatari's of paying bribes yet. They've started to build 8-10 stadia and the infra-structure around them. They'll want their money back. In the Middle East, and I guess a lot of other places, bribes aren't bribes. They're administrative and facilitation charges and aren't seen as bribes, just part of the set up costs if any project.
If it was part of FIFA's culture then they would all have paid bribes, and the winner paid the highest. I'm not taking sides here. I'm just asking, where did the corruption originate. I think it's valid.
It just sounds like that's how FIFA works, as business-as-usual. That these things are just normal. If that's the case, getting rid of Blatters isn't going to fix anything. The whole organisation needs breaking down and re-built from to ground up.
Agree frankly. But how do we ensure that the new one will be any different from the old one? I'd like to invite some of our U.S. guys in here to advise us ; Is U.S politics any cleaner today than in Nixon's or Ford's time? And, if so, how?
They even took bribes for the world cup in France in 98 - over to you Mr Platini http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/32998735 The guilty pleas of former top Fifa official Chuck Blazer have been detailed with the release of papers from a 2013 hearing in New York. He says that he and others on Fifa's executive committee agreed to accept bribes in conjunction with the choice of South Africa as 2010 World Cup host. Mr Blazer says he also accepted bribes over the 1998 event. The US has launched a wide-ranging criminal case that engulfed Fifa and led President Sepp Blatter to resign. The US case indicted 14 people on charges of racketeering and money laundering. The US justice department alleges they accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150m (£97m) over a 24-year period. Seven of the 14 were top Fifa officials who were arrested in Zurich, Switzerland, as they awaited the Fifa congress. Two were vice-presidents. The details of Mr Blazer's guilty pleas came as prosecutors unsealed the transcript of the 2013 hearing in the Eastern New York District Court.
Jack Warner's now squealing like a pig and claiming FIFA interfered with his country's general election. He also claims to be in fear of his life. They're all turning on each other now!
It`s all racism and none of them are guilty of any wrongdoing apparently. Qatar are now saying it`s racism and discrimination because they`re arabs, Don`t see how that applies to Russia but, there we go.
Its going to be like watching a sinking ship and everyone fighting for the life boats. And if they go down, they're taking as many as they can with them. All these confessions will prove its nothing to do with racism but just blatant greed and self-interest.
