Well look on the brightside, I'm sure your line manager will appreciate the amount of effort and time you've spent sorting the containers.

I'm sorry to hear about your ex being such an insensitve jerk. I know it's hard but try not to think about him, it won't make you feel any better and will just make you feel worse. Try and do something to take your mind off him. You don't need him, you're pretty cool, funny girl. You don't need to waste your time with people like that. We've all had an ex who we thought they wA the person of our dreams. If it doesn't work out, it's not an indication of us being wrong and nor should we let it destroy our dreams, it's merely a case of them proving that they never were your dream person.

Also, is that you in your avatar?

(And I'm no sure I should be offended that fatletiss stated me as an example of someone who has it worse!)

There are some good ones out there. You just need to find one without a willy, then there's a good chance that he'll be half sensible.

    Jen,

This comment gave me pause for thought. It's awful that you feel like that and it must make you feel quite powerless to force a change.

However, there's a lot of evidence that there are concrete activities you can do to make to make yourself luckier.

If you're interested, I'm giving a talk in Bournemouth on the subject "How to make yourself lucky". The background to the talk is that I'm a truly jammy bleeder and, as a keen amateur scientist, I became interested in why I am consistently lucky. I've read and analysed plenty of research on the subject and this is my first delivery of a talk on the subject.

Basically, there is a wealth of evidence that you can directly affect the luck you experience by following about half a dozen simple steps (all pretty good fun - some VERY good fun). Scientific evidence, from peer-reviewed research.

The talk's on the 19th July. If you can't make it to Bournemouth, the group who have the meetings are lining me up to deliver it in Southampton (Banister Rd school on a Sunday morning), probably in August or September.

I'd love you to hear it as your comment above sounds exactly like some of the people who took part in the research, some of whom have completely changed their luck.

Apologies if this sounds intrusive but your comment resonated with me as something that seems unresolvable but is changeable. If I'm out of order just let me know, but it might be fun to Invest an hour of your life and come along.

In case you're worried that meetings on a Sunday might mean I'm a God-botherer, do bear in mind that I am, in fact, the designated atheist of this forum.

    Vin

P.S. Offer open to all, obviously.

    Vin,

    Couple of things:

    1. What you doing on here before the season starts or is close to starting?

    2. I have ordered the lucky book

    3. What's the group. PM me if you prefer.

    1. I've been lurking and Jen's plight broke even my poor, insensitive heart. And Europa has moved us close to season start. And I'm weak-willed. And it's not footy related. And, etc, etc

    2. Good stuff

    3. The group is "Sunday Assembly". Godless (n.b. not atheist, just godless) meeting on a Sunday once a month.

Have seen this in a few friends...you are drawn to the same type. Will keep happening if you don't break the pattern. Sadly, you can't make yourself love the nice lads.

Hey Jen, I was attracted to you for a while (years ago back when we used to talk a lot), does that make me a dickhead? :emoticon-0104-surpr

If you really are unlucky, I promise you that you can do something about it. Come along, preferably to Bournemouth (if you're going to get lucky, better sooner rather than later) but if not, then Southampton.

I used to think that I attracted nutters and have ended up in some really terrible relationships over the years. It was when I realised that it was actually a conscious choice and that I found the uncertainty and possible danger of dating a nutter attractive however I got that out of my system with only a few long lasting scars and all of a sudden, my "luck" changed.
There is a silver lining to your cloud though Jen, that being the fact that you it was someone else who is possibly stuck with the jerk....

And I think there are quite a few takers for board atheist, me included :emoticon-0101-sadsm
