Let's have a thread so we can keep a track of comings and going and the playing squad and discuss new signing and players leaving. At this moment in time we have 17 1st team squad members my reckoning they are... GK:- Marco Silvestri DF:- Sam Byram, Guiseppe Bellusci Gaetano Berardi, Scott Wootton, Charlie Taylor, Liam Cooper MF:- Luke Murphy, Tommaso Bianchi, Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt, Casper Sloth, FW: Billy Sharp, Nicky Ajose, Steve Morison, Souleymane Doukara, Mirco Antenucci That leaves us with 1 Keeper, 6 Defenders, 5 Midfielders, 5 Forwards. So what do we need and who do expect for us to get in. I'll update this when people come and go, now it's over to you
God the reality of what we have is truly depressing........ Would need 13 of that lot not to be first choice to be in with any chance of the top ten.
Inevitable given we've had basically a decade of no real investment in the playing side. That will have to change drastically. Freebies and loanees coming in won't improve us. Time for Cellino to have a serious rummage about in his wallet
2 midfielders, 2 new keepers and 2 new strikers (1 a winger or pace man like Rod Wallace either upfront or from midfield)
Didn't he come off the bench for the last couple of games? I'm putting him in the Dawson column an almost but not quiet there.
I wouldn't be surprised if 4 of that lot were transferred Wooton Doukara Ajose and Bianci so that leaves 13
Well we know we are going to be adopting 4-3-3 again and we have plenty of central midfield players. I would still like to see Barton join and a combination of Cook, Sloth, Mowatt and Bianchi fighting for the two spots. Sell Byram and Murphy then as many of the front line as we can and go into next season with three new players up front unless Doukara is of any use wide left.
Did we sign a new head of recruitment? Might as well have waited for Steve Head to return from his holiday
I wouldn't be against any of that happening. I don't think Byram is half as good as what he is valued at although I'd still be more than happy for him to stay at the same time. Murphy is average, doesn't do enough and doesn't get involved in the game enough for my liking. Barton would be good and you'd probably end up having Cook and Mowatt either side of him with those CMs left. My major concern is with our wide players, and I really honestly think if we improve our attack, we will also concede less goals. We don't have that bad a defense (assuming that Bamba signs, and I wouldn't mind signing defensive cover and getting rid of Cooper) its just constantly under pressure.
Sounds like Barton is a no go, which is a shame because I think he'd be an excellent signing too. I'd like to keep Murphy, think he uses the ball better than Mowatt but he wouldn't fetch anywhere near as much money. Ideally I'd want both to stay though. Not a fan of Bianchi. Not sure on Doukara either, he's not that quick and he's poor in the air. Loses possession a lot too. Not a bad finisher though.
