I always thought he was a good MP even if I didn't always agree with him. He has had his battles with his health, but very sad news for his family. RIP.

Good post Yorkie and from a personal view I can agree with much of what you say. I have always had an affinity for the buddhist way of life if not the desire to be a Buddhist. Seven or eight years ago I made the conscious decision to drop out of the rat race and enjoy a more simple life. We were fortunately not "badly off" so perhaps that is easy for me to say. However I made a choice to forego all future earnings to spend more time just "being" not "doing". Subsequently Mrs L's heart attack and then cancer have only reinforced my thankfulness of having made that decision. I try to do nothing now that causes stress in my life. As you will know from my contributions on here I enjoy a debate and banter but walk away when people are nasty - I don't need that hassle. A simple wander down the road to sit on a bench and watch the waves rolling in is worth more than any material assets I possess.

However I believe I am out of kilter with most other people. I have a computer - evidently - but do not use mobile phones, do not possess ipads, pods etc, I drive as little as possible and so on. My children and most friends think I have reverted to my sixties hippiedom or perhaps just senility. YOu are right people chase rainbows and nothing anybody possesses actually give them real pleasure. They do not realise that their pleasure actually derives from trying to get the next thing and once they have it they don't really want it. That is why I do not care less about the filthy rich - their lives make them no happier than people living on very little. The problem with modern western society is that everybody is greedy - from the poorest to the richest - and it is the belief that they have intrinsic rights to things that helps fuel the ever increasing demands they make.

You will not change human nature in your lifetime Yorkie but good luck in trying- every journey starts with a single step.

That is exactly what I did when my Dad died - although I was told by my then wife that she couldn't finish work early and that I couldn't stay in the shop, so it was Hobson's Choice of what to do. However, since then when I have been stressed, I have done that and knowing that how I feel doesn't change the natural movement of the sea calms me.

You are all so right!!! There is nothing that beats what man really needs, fire water and air. The greatest pleasures I have and the only times relieved of stress are breathing sea or mountain air, watching waves crashing in or tending a bonfire. Yesterday was down in Bournemouth and stayed overnight in Dorset, driving 1300 miles in two days with a funeral in the middle couldn't have done it if it hadn't been for the chance to walk down to the beach and get the feet wet in the beautiful breakers......... So how do we get that to be available for everyone?

Mr Cameron said: "You cannot have accusations of corruption at this level and on this scale in this organisation and pretend that the person currently leading it is the right person to take it forward."

Can anyone else hear an Irony Klaxon going into overdrive?

Cameron was not talking about the Irish FA but the total corruption that has been FIFA for years. If anyone disagrees then they must be related to Blatter and his cronies. Why can some people not give credit where credit is due and applaud it when Cameron gets something right. If you criticise someone even when they are clearly correct it lessens the force of any arguments you make against them in other matters. I suspect if Cameron said Watford play at Vicarage Road Watford BB would find something to disagree with. Makes all views less credible IMHO

Did I mistake this for criticism? If it was praise then it missed me. Seemed to be a direct implication that he presided over large scale corruption. How did I misinterpret this?

I made neither praise nor criticism - I merely pointed out the irony of one person who presides over a corrupt organisation making comments about the suitability of someone else to lead another corrupt organisation. Your difficulty with that may possibly be an unwillingness to accept that corruption exists within the UK government.

I think the fact that he lets his rich friends avoid tax and allows them to milk the money from the NHS is fair play and not at all corrupt! <whistle>

Unsubstantiated lefty nonsense. The coalition targeted multinational businesses like no previous governments. They also ring fenced the NHS. Pity your slogans don't match reality.

    Surprised by you Dave.

Do you honestly believe that ? So over 11m people are so stupid they voted for a man who leads a corrupt organisation and favours his rich friends even though there is no proof he does that? The NHS is required to justify who they use for their services to ensure value for money rather than allowing state funded people with no accountability work how they want? (6% now and 5% under Labour was provided by private companies - including charities). But all rich people are corrupt - and that is not at all a media spin - anymore than all poor people are benefit frauds.

People with political affiliations ( I have none) need to think hard about the bias they take for granted.

Any chance of an example of this "milking of the NHS"? Best not mention RBS where Gordon's best mate was allowed to run amok as well - funny how Nat West was unbranded from RBS...

Sorry to disappoint you Leo but it's an honest belief that I hold! Our money used to bail out the banks while the bankers are still reaping vast amounts of money, Royal Mail sold off very cheaply to Tory doners, tax evaders getting off scot free while those on benefits are hounded mercilessly etc.......
