This one comes from Paul Lagan, also known as @CFCJourno, also known as the dude on whose notepad Jose Mourinho wrote "BIG BALLS" when asked why Chelsea were able to come back and win 2-1 against Crystal Palace in October. That was a follow-up to last season's notepad scribble of just "BALLS" when Mourinho was asked what Chelsea lacked in their failed Premier League title challenge.
While Lagan's notepad game is unparalleled to say the least, I'm not sure how good his inside sources may be. So take this with however many grains of salt you think they may be worth.
"Robert Green is believed to have turned down the chance to join the Premier League winners...
...Green, 37, has opted to stay at the relegated west Londoners or if he is sold, plans to go to a club where he will be the number one choice."
    -source: Chelsea-Mad
Previously, the story with Green was that his number one priority was to stay in the Premier League, which then put him on Chelsea's supposed shortlist to replace Petr Cech, should he decide to give up the backup life. But apparently Green does not want to be a backup either, so I guess we might as well cross him off the list. And now, we can freely go back to making fun of him for letting in that Clint Dempsey shot. Butterfingers!

Well done to him and good luck whether he stays or goes. It just goes to show not everyone is scum material.

Good guy but I hope he moves. Time for youth to have its fling.

    Agree. It's McCarthy's turn.

We need a new team to rebuild our identity and Green is now 37.

Green was born on 18 January 1980, which makes him 35.

Basic fact checking beyond the journey, so why trust any of it.

I hope he goes soon, we need to offload some of those on contracts. Refresh the lot. Or if he stays get rid of McCarthy, a waste having both. Green seem a good lad, makes some great saves, but is always a nano second away from a massive cock up, inspires no confidence. Plus his distribution is both awful and slow. On the little I have aeen of him (Newcastle and Leicester) McCarthy isn't as good a Green, though his distribution is faster.

There will be mixed reaction to this news if it does mean he is staying at QPR. If his contract included a relegation clause, we could do worse. It would need a fairly detailed analysis to determine if he saved us more points than he cost us.

"It would need a fairly detailed analysis to determine if he saved us more points than he cost us. "

I have to make the assumption that the above statement was said in jest or tongue in cheek, because otherwise I can't make sense of it.

It's like saying that we should do a detailed analysis to determine whether Charlie Austin's missed chances from open play, missed penalties or his episodes of being caught offside outweigh the number of goals he has scored.

Every single player in every single side in every single league makes mistakes, Austin will blaze one over the bar - but that is a miss not a mistake, but Green miss kicks a clearance which did not sail straight back over his head and in to the net, but lead to another example of our team's defensive frailty which actually caused the goal and people are immediately calling for Green the Clanger to be sold and bring in McCarthy as an obvious successor. I just don't get this rush to see possibly one of our greatest current assets kicked out. The guy is 35, in great shape, already has a contract for one more year, is hardly ever injured - apart from Barton's kneecap nearly knocking his head off during the last home game.

The mere fact that Chelsea were apparently talking to him is reason enough to show that he needs to be kept on for another year as numero uno. Ok, so he is purported to be on a big whack, perhaps he is one of the few that actually deserves to be on it and has actually earned what he has been paid thus far.

My concern is that they have let Murphy go and that may mean that they are anticipating a change in the pecking order with McCarthy either being played next season with Green gone and them not seeing Murphy as a strong enough number two. Alternatively they may decide they cannot risk losing Green, McCarthy wont accept being a number 2 again next season and will be off and Green needs a new successor.

Either way, what will be, will be, but if Greeno is between the sticks come August 8th I will not be unhappy with that situation,

I don't have anything against Green on a personal level but think we might lose a talented young keeper in McCarthy if we keep Green.

I also have a suspicion that he was signed in the wreckless "no clause" era (he signed just before Cesar if I recall correctly) so that would be 2.5 million plus transfer fee that him staying would cost the club.

This is the key factor I suppose that the bean counters at LR will be discussing with the management team. Are finances with FFP going to be so bad that we have to go with the financially expedient option and cash in on what is left of Green's contract and hope that his understudy will step up to the mark and not require an expensive understudy of his own so they can get a cheaper number two in from League 1

Very true. - I'm still basing my opinion of McCarthy on how he was before he signed for us. With our record of obliterating promising careers, that might be risky....

Not sure that McCarthy will accept sitting on the bench for another season in the Championship - not playing on a regular basis he becomes rustier each game and this showed at Leicester.

Green has offered us quality when there has been a lack of quality at QPR. The only people who want him to go are those who don't realise how difficult it is to find a perfect goalie with no weaknesses. He's kinda youngish for a keeper, too. 35 is no problem in that position.

McCarthy has looked poor every time he's played, certainly nowhere near his Reading form. The QPR anti-midas touch seems to have afflicted him as well...

Hard to play when you've not done so for months. I think Green has been hugely underrated by a lot of our fans but if he's on £40k+ a week I'd rather he left.

I have found myself fighting Green's corner on this forum all season. There are many on here that don't rate him for some reason, but the fact that he was included in the last England squad speaks volumes. If we need to sell him to reduce the wage bill then so be it, but if not, he should be number one next season. Don't really care if McCarthy likes it or not.

He was included in the England squad almost by default. He wouldn't have even been discussed if Forster and Foster hadn't been injured. Not that he was going to see a minute of playing time anyhow, warming the bench with a cup of tea wasn't he?

Green's an honest pro and he's been a good servant but he's been part of a side for 3 seasons which has consistently under performed.

His footwork has always been awful when getting down to low shots and his distribution I won't even elaborate on.

We've got a young, hungry Keeper in McCarthy who could be in the sticks for the next 5-10 years. It's his time.

Hard not to agree with this. Blaming McCarthy for being rusty is a tad harsh considering his only match practice has been the occasional u21 game. Can we all remember Rob Green's first game of the season a few years back after not being fully match fit..had a clanger didn't he?
Keepers need to play to hit form; if they're both on their game then McCarthy is the better keeper. It's a no brainer.
