People will not renew their season tickets until they know the set up for next season. Ashley is gambling that people sign up before he announces the new coach if he makes positive noises.
Should he appoint Carver or McClaren ( sacked by Forest & Derby ) then the vitriol shown towards him will continue but I would say at a higher level and Carver/McClaren would under great pressure from day one.

Appoint McClaren/ Carver and we know that Ashley lied through his teeth on TV. They'll have the backing of about 30% of fans and as soon as we have a bad run [which we will], the daggers will be out and Ashley will bear the brunt yet again.

Ashley wants to stop the vitriol and sell tickets it's simple; Go for someone that excites the fans and just for once stop thinking about the ****ing money.

So much hatred for McClaren - all of a sudden we hear about Vieria and **** McClaren!

I personally would love Vieria here and also Garde but if worst happened and it was McClaren then to me we still have an improvement on Pardew!

Fans becoming above their stations once again!

Just to dampen the mood a little, I have never seen the club make an obvious or, in this case, telegraphed appointment. Back in January, an out of work Remi Garde was odds on favourite but didn't even make it to Newcastle Airport in favour of John Carver being given the gig. A few weeks ago McLaren was "nailed on" to rescue us with three to go, didn't happen. Now we're given "Vieira's a shoe-in".....I can just see this fizzling out to be a distant memory in the next few weeks.

Had JC done an "average" job and seen us finish 10th-12th, there'd be no doubt he would have been selected. Has a few garbage performances really changed how Sports Direct want NUFC to be managed? Mr. Ashley has been summoned to the House of Commons to explain zero hour contracts. He deleted the email and just didn't bother. Now it may be that he suddenly has determination to have his name against something "successful". But none of us should be surprised if we're let down in the end.

McClaren is Pardew mark II for me based on his club record since 2010.

McClaren had his chance after the Leicester debacle and he decided against it. We only want him if it means him or Carver (or some **** like Hoddle).

He's uninspiring. The problem the club have is Mike Ashley has set a level of expectation. Most fans would probably have shrugged and accepted McLaren in January, or took your arm off if you offered him above Carver with 3 to go. But now, after we were spurned twice and with Ashley promising CL football (sort of....), he's a damp squib.

McClaren has just been sacked by a Championship side. Why are we even considering him? His record since winning Eredivisie in 2010:

Wolfsburg - Inherited a side that had won the Bundesliga two seasons previously and despite having one of the biggest budgets in the Bundesliga, took them to within 1 point of the relegation places. Not to mention he had lost the dressing room and any authority he had. Ultimately sacked.

Twente - Returned but resigned due to poor results and massive criticism from fans over his tactics and style of play.

Notts Forest - 8 points from 10 games before resigning. Lasted a grand total of 112 days.

Derby - Blew it. They should have at least got into the play-offs considering where they were in January/ February. Derby fans were pretty scathing of him before he was sacked.

This ...I hadn't realised how crap he was since 2010 ....Mclaren to me was always the Pardew GTi version with go faster stripes...a step up from Pardew ..but not a very big step.

My preferred was Tuchel and Gouvenec ...but I am beginning to warm to the idea of Vieira ..Could prove to be a bit of a coup, particularly as people here /press etc seem to indicate he would want some say in buying/ back room staff.and is not a 'yes' man... This club needs to be shaken up from stem to stern, and if appointed, think he is the right man to do that.

But this is Ashley and Charnley ..and we could end up with ...who hell knows

    Pros -
    1. Viera is french. Our squad is french. What's french for "long ball"?
    2. Viera has connections
    3. Viera wouldn't leave a post he loves to be shafted with minimal player recruitment
    4. Viera is like a demi-god, Tiote on Sissoko's shoulders wouldn't **** with him
    5. Viera is black. We would be doing our thing for diversity, which is apparently good.

    Cons -
    1. No idea what style of play he prefers
    2. He's french. That's the reason we agreed the stinking players were all gutless ****s isn't it?
    3. No experience
    4. No head-hair... What kind of freak is he?

Would be interesting. That's why everyone is excited, because the other options are boring.

I never thought that. Only the sorts that believe we need English jobbers believed that. I've never, ever been of that persuasion.

If you look at the cons, you could counter argue them you could come up with the following responses.
    1. Yes we don't know but looking at the teams he's been with, it will most likely be a passing attacking style of play and he will be the sort of manager who will demand a 110% from players and will command more respect from players than people like Carver and Pardew.
    2. He's played in a team of winners who were mainly French at Arsenal. Even captaining them in the Invincible season.
    3. Plenty of managers have done well in there first job, Keegan at Newcastle, Karanka at Middlesbrough and Keane at Sunderland spring to mind with being from the North East.
    4. Isn't that common for black people.

I think he is the best candidate for the job, as he is the sort you can see being very good as a manager. Certainly better than constant failures like McClaren.

Its not going to happen guys. Life just isn't that kind.................... Mike Ashley even less so. Also I just don't imagine the Vieira suffers fools gladly........... and in Penfold and his cronies that's exactly what we have.

Of course we can counter argue them, because we have no knowledge either way or anything really to use as a rule to mark Viera against, you could just as easy shoot down all the pros!

I think he's just the most interesting of what is available, and would probably bring more intrigue and STs as people don't know what to expect. I'd be hesitant to call him the best candidate when he's supposedly against people who have won titles as a manager.

It would go some way to make up for the last 5 results if they do.
