Again ran a great race, Stick/Don, very nice racehorse with a fine attitude. Agree, needed to be a bit closer to that winner, might well have been awful close had he been. On to the next one, Royal Ascot?
Thanks so much everyone, the support and kind words really are overwhelming. Stick and I love chatting about our boy and how much knowledge there is on here is staggering. I wanted Michael to try him over 7f, basically fly out and full throttle all the way. Still would like to see that tried but he stays brilliantly and is always doing his best work at the end. Ran a belter, as stick says would have been better for him to have the winner in his sights. As we said he only just does enough, proven by the photo for 2nd, he beat what he could see!!! Very proud, what a star.
I have to say that I think trying him over seven furlongs is not an unreasonable idea but I do not think that trail blazing will work with him. As you say, in the race at Newmarket he was just doing enough and chasing the opponents he could see. It was unfortunate that the winner was unsighted on the other side of the field. Surely if he hit the gate and went he would just stop in front?
I am convinced that he just needs a strong pace to work off and I am even more certain that a stiffer finish would play to his strengths.
I agree sandown sounds like a plan. And also the trainer knows best if your not in a rush. All the best plots take time . Wouldn't it be lovely to se him run at Epsom ,local trainer ?
That's exactly it for me QM, he would cruise infront not using energy unless he saw anything. Stick even used the dreaded B word (blinkers)! Its almost like he dislikes behing behind early thus pulls a bit out of the gates. I just think would be interesting to try it and see what happens, he could well steal a march on the field and would be hard to pass. Heart of a lion. 7F stiff finish as a compromise???!
FP there's certainly no plot, we share what we know, love him to win at Epsom, Attwatter is literally on Tattenham corner. Sticks got his trousers down and homer simpson boxer shorts on for all to see.....
Well the times were definitely interesting. 1 Forgotten Hero 5/1J 2 Squire 8/1 3 Mythical Madness 5/1J 12 ran Distances: 1¾l, nse, ½l TIME 2m 3.05s (slow by 2.55s) ---------------------------------------------- 1 Peacock EvensF 2 Mustadeem 16/1 3 Tannaaf 6/1 6 ran Distances: 1¼l, shd, ½l TIME 2m 3.76s (slow by 3.26s) ----------------------------------------------- Watersmeet, who boosted the form earlier in the afternoon, did so in no uncertain fashion, winning in a fast time.
1st of all im no expert, however I dont believe in the comparison of times between 2 races over the same distance that have different runners. If Squire had something to aim at from 4f out it would be a different race to Squire running alongside the eventual winner over the last 4f! Times are relevant to the race that it was run in UNLESS a horse is pushed all the way then you know theres nothing left...............or is there? The plot thickens!!!!!!!
Obviously times per se have little meaning but they are a good starting point as they are fact. Depending on the circumstances of each race relative times can range from totally meaningless to highly significant. It's up to each individual to make of them what they will. Used correctly they can be very revealing and more relevant than what looks to be an impressive win. Timeform, as the name suggests, base their ratings on times but there are 101 other factors that need to be factored in. In the context of my post above, I had previously said I would be interested in the relative times of the 2 races and I found them interesting because, regardless of anything else, I wasn't expecting to find that Squires race was the faster (by 0.71 secs in fact). So yes, to me, it was interesting; not conclusive.
Sorry Ron wasnt a criticism in anyway just an opinion. My horse racing opinions are pretty basic like my betting returns
Well done to Stick and the Don, what a little cracker you've picked up there. Was away most of last week but saw that Squire was entered on Saturday. Ran another cracker. I have a mobile phone from a different era so got a bollocking from the missus as she thought (incorrectly as it turns out but why let fact get in the way of issuing a bollocking!) that I'd used up her monthly streaming allowance. Living the dream lads and thanks for sharing the experience.
Way to go Stick and Don, what a brave fella you guys have. Ever get the feeling that he'd run all day? 14 miles might be just up his alley...only joking. The way Squire pulled it out in the last half furlong as all heart. Onward and upward. The first Tuesday in November at Flemington beckons, $6.2 million is on offer. It costs nothing to dream.
Excellent – still on a definite winning mark but will almost certainly be favourite next time because even those bookie chaps can see a horse that is virtually unpunished for finishing second in a valuable handicap.
