I had to go the Magic (ha) weekend to Newcastle yesterday it was my sons stag do, his fiancé works for FC so got us all tickets, luckily I used to go to FC years ago so they are my preference, both my sons were brought up in East Hull so support KR, spit. Anyhow we were ensconced in the Leazes stand but the lower bit cos the upper was shut, sat with the Hull fans, the game gets going and the tries started coming, I quite enjoyed it to be honest ( 4 Hail Marys ) but apart from a group of a hundred or so young FC fans to my right most were sat on their hands not uttering a word. I got told to sit down because they couldn't see, ( too fat to get up most of them ) into the second half White ****e fans sat 10 rows behind but in with the Hull fans started singing L**ds songs, now I didn't like that so I told them to ****ing shut it, and for a little while they did, but because no one backed me up they just took the piss and carried on. So I had a conversation with this lard arse behind me, who said I should say that because there is never any trouble at games, I said take your blinkers off mate and look over there, at the very back of the stand quite a good fight started between some other Leeds fans and dullers it went on for a good few minutes before some stewards and a couple of cops restored order. What did you say about trouble mate I said, when I asked a steward on the way out he said that's the first fight he's seen at the ground like that in his 12 years as a steward. It won't get reported, but it was different with 6 sets of fans milling about in the town later that night and there was no animosity as far as I could tell. Not sure about that 40,000 plus attendance though, the top tier all the way round was empty except for a few hundred above half way line.
good day out yesterday in newcastle not least because of the right result- it is possible to support both city and the oval balled sport- cant understand the need for either side to take the mick out the other. have been a solid FC fan for donkeys and a relative newcomer to football- im not a plastic either.me grandpa and dad took me to boothferry park when I was about 7 but didnt like it- (45 years ago) been watching city for about 6 years now and enjoying it nealy as much as the Rugby-
Always had a soft spot for Hull FC because I grew up just round the corner from the Airlie St ground and I could get in for nowt at half time. Good to see them giving Rervers a good hammering today!
Gwillam got very excited about it on Talksport on Friday. 20,000 tickets sold locally in Newcastle. Pete Smurthwaite, who pops up nearly every week as a football guest during the seasonbut always brings rugby into it, came out with some stuff about how the Geordies, after a difficult time of it with their football team, would have a chance to see a game played by real men with no cheating and all the usual stuff. Caught a bit of it and the presenters were doing their usual building it up (which is their job but they do go overboard) . They had never seen so many people at the start of a Magic weekend, it was a non stop party atmosphere, something they said at the end as well. Of course quite a few mentions of fans mingling together and no need for segregation in their game. There were mentions of Widnes fans travelling in their thousands, though there didn't look that many. The figure of 40,000 was given for all 3 games. Which is nonsense as there were obviously fewer fans for the first game. Sunday's games were 26,000, so either a lot of the 20,000 Geordies didn't go go today or there weren't many fans of the teams playing who travelled. Not knocking rugby league, I have a lot of admiration for the fitness and toughness of the players, just some of the hype from some people connected with the game. I would love to know Humberside Police's reaction to having thousands of people from out of town wandering around Hull on a Saturday night. The fact that we couldn't cope with such an influx is a reason that we weren't considered for a World Cup ground. There aren't the hotel rooms and Humberside Police, who have closed pubs for the visit of Torquay and wanted to close them all fora friendly against Leeds until it was pointed out there were functions to show how vibrant a city Hull is to prospective investors and an awards ceremony where drink wouldn't be able to be sold that stopped Inspector Pantsdown getting his crackpot way.
Didn't like it for 45 years when we were in the second, third and fourth divisions but decided you did when we were in the PL. You will be one of those fans whose opinion Happy thinks is just as relevant as those who were going through those dismal 45 years of under achievement. No doubt you will be quite happy with whatever name our chairman decides to lumber us with as long as we are in the Premier League. Not a plastic.
Used to go to rugby in the days when FC were getting poor crowds. My problem is with those who build it up to be something of great importance and what defines Hull. This is the sort of thing which has held Hull back in my opinion. My break with them came at the Brentford game. For some others, including the founder of the Action Group it came when a busful of them rolled up at Headingley (can't remember if City's game was postponed at late notice or it had been an early kick off and the rugby wax a late one) to support FC and were spat at by fellow Hull citizens and called Hull City bastards and told to **** off. He later relented and went again at junior level when his son got involved. As for my wife, no chance. She isn't going to settle for second best have known perfection.
When you get to over 40 years of marriage come back and talk, sonny. As I say, she tried the rest and settled for the best. Not when she is around, mind you.
I was also there for a stag do, was pretty boring to be honest and at least 3 of the FC tries were also so blatantly forward passes that I figured the refs and lino couldn't be arsed! 4 quid for a ****ty bottle of piss water carlsberg didn't help either!
