Nah if it had came off it would have been quality. I can't believe the Spanish can get up in arms over this bit just accept the diving and cheating as "part" of the game on the continent
Ludicrous. It's an entertainment industry and the Bilbao players are up in arms because he attempted to entertain the fans? **** off.
Someone had done it to me when I was playing them I would have lamped them. If they'd done it while I was losing I'd have gone for their achilles. It's trying to take the piss out of the person marking you so you need to be ready for them to retaliate.
yes its showboating, but it was also a genuine attempt to get past him, which he would have done if he hadnt been fouled. I suppose there is a blurred line between using skill to beat a man and taking the piss, I feel this is touching that blurred line but leaning towards the former.
I very much doubt many defenders would just sit back and applaud him. If they did they wouldn't be very good at their job.
It's no different than the Cruyff turn all them years ago when nobody had tried, or mastered it at least. He's trying to beat a player with some skill.
All part of the game as far as I'm concerned...If it had come off it would have been talked about for ages..
The worlds gone ****ing crazy. He's a paid entertainer, closing stages of the final and leading. I respect him for trying to beat the man. I know what does piss me off, shielding at the corner flag running the clock down. The lad has done nowt wrong and if anything completely honored the spirit of the game by not going to the corner to time waste. He wants to beat the man, he wants his team to score another regardless of situation. Bravo I say.
Bit sad that the players were winging on about it. If you try that and it comes off fair play but expect a good whacking next time you get the ball. If that was the sunday league I used to play in it would have somehow ended in a 22 man brawl.
That's all I'd do, I wouldn't complain and start him, I'd just clatter him next time without making a fuss
For me he did his trick but it did not appear to quite come off so he ran into the other guy looking for a free kick. Daft all round but that is modern football.
Isn't this the same trick Ossie Ardiles did several times? Christ, these people would have hung, drawn and quartered Shackleton for some of the magic tricks he did on the field. It used to be called skill, now it's a crime. I'd like to see a five year ban for every Bilbao player involved. When they come back, they might have grown up.
