Same with Scunny a few years ago. They seemed to lose their best striker and replace him with someone just as good on an annual basis.
Its one of the area's that I'm afraid I have no faith what so ever in SB, his record in dealing for strikers is poor very poor. we need to get off to a good start next season, we need to be banging a few in from the word go, we've been staved to long regards goals.
Dugarry, Bent, Gyan Jelavic, Long. Fergies made some reet **** ups too. We dont need to be scouring the globe for players. Just a good scout who goes and watches the Championship and below who knows what he's doing.
Fergie, your right did make some crap buy's, the difference was his cheque book was/is rather bigger than city's and there's the problem, with limited resources you've got to get it right more or less every time,
The issue has been long before Bruce came on board. In the PL first time round we couldn't find a goalscorer, and even when we where relagated we only came back up because of our defence, nothing to do with having a goalscoring striker. I think we need to be realistic, Gestede will go for 6m+, Rhodes 10m+, Chris Martin 5m+ so maybe we need to look at either players who are not wanted by their PL clubs anymore, a youngster from a PL club and maybe someone from League One. As I doubt we have much money to spend.
I agree with Chazz that proven players at a lower level are the way to go. Obviously we can't just snap up proven top Championship strikers easily now, so we'll have to look at the bottom end and into the lower divisions. It's worked for other teams.
The only decent one we brought into the building we didn't end up signing!! Austin - horse **** Medicals and scouting!
Whoever gets signed will hit the ground running and be hailed as a world beater. Within a couple of weeks will have been struck by the Hull City curse and be absolute dog ****e
Daryl Murphy from Ipswich. Leading Championship goalscorer last season and will know some of the Irish lads. Depends whether he can work with Brucey who managed him at Sunderland
It's taken him years to become a goalscorer though, you just know as soon as he signs for us he'll end up getting 5 or 6 like he used to.
Other teams probably have coaching staff that can help improve strikers, ours seem to just send ours backwards. We should have jumped at signing Kevin Phillips for that very purpose, and didn't he play under Bruce at Sunderland?
Daryl Murphy last season was on great form, and it's bizarre - he grew a beard, got some tattoos and suddenly became good.
I thought originally we should have hung on to him but he hasn't exactly set the world alight at Forest, 6 in 25 is it?
His goalscoring record for us was pretty good though. Those stats over the course of the season would give him over ten goals, more than any of ours managed.
