Sunderland prepare £5million bid for Leeds United right-back Sam Byram but face fight for signature from Liverpool and Newcastle
    • Sunderland are set to make an offer for Leeds United defender Sam Byram
    • The 21-year-old right-back has impressed for Leeds over last two seasons
    • Sunderland face battle for his signature with Liverpool and Newcastle keen
    • Owner Ellis Short wants a squad overhaul to avoid more relegation battles

Sunderland are lining up a £5million bid for Leeds United right-back Sam Byram.

The 21-year-old has interest from Liverpool and Newcastle also but is not their top choice. Leeds value Byram at £8million but Premier League clubs are reluctant to go so high.

Sunderland sporting director Lee Congerton has identified the England U20 international to solve their problem full-back position and has been tasked with finding another five quality signings as owner Ellis Short considers an overhaul to avoid further relegation battles.

That's me! Mr Generous! Nah seriously, we have bugger all money to spend so I don't want to spend 5 million (or whatever it is) on a back up right back.

We were linked last summaer and I did some digging, supposedly talented but patchy form and has disappeared when going badly.

Not sounding like a good fit considering we are generally going badly...

Bardsley would get stuck in when things were going against us, for better or for worse.

Trippier won't cost £5m and he's tried and tested in the premier league now.

This is a non sstory I reckon.

We have bugger all to spend do we !, that's us down then next season then, after saving us £90 m plus from relegation !, are we the laughing stock again ?. We need a top striker for £20-30 m then replacements for Bridcutt, O Shea, Brown and that is just the start and we have to go to Bayern, Madrid, Man c etc for players not the championship. Watmore is finally getting recognised thankfully as it a took a whole season when he should have replaced Whickam etc in January, and shows how this club is still run.

Its worth reading the rest! Targeting 20-30 million strikers from Bayern, Madrid, Man City being a personal highlight!

City were supposedly after him 2 years ago, but his development has stagnated Abit over the last year, mainly due to injury. He's looked quite slow when I've seen him play.
Leeds used him as a winger mainly last season.
