Reveillere expected to pen new Sunderland deal, but Wes Brown heading to exit please log in to view this image Anthony Reveillere in action for Sunderland against Aston Villa. [email protected] @youngsunecho 08:26Saturday 30 May 2015 12HAVE YOUR SAY Anthony Reveillere is on the verge of penning a new Sunderland deal, but fellow veteran defender Wes Brown looks likely to leave the Stadium of Light this summer. Reveillere and Brown are the only Sunderland first-teamers out-of-contract at the end of next month, with the Black Cats opting to wait until the conclusion of the season to decide on the futures of the two 35-year-olds. Anthony is very happy at Sunderland and he would like to stay Brown is NOT expected to be offered fresh terms to prolong the ex-England international’s four-year stay at Sunderland. But, as reported last month, Sunderland have been in talks with Reveillere’s camp over a fresh 12-month contract after the full-back’s positive contribution since arriving on a Bosman deal last October. Reveillere is understood to have provisionally agreed terms with Sunderland, yet the contract extension is being held up due to the uncertainty over the head coach position. The ex-France international’s camp are waiting to see whether the next Sunderland boss gives the go-ahead to keeping Reveillere at the club after Dick Advocaat’s departure earlier this week. A source close to Reveillere said: “We are waiting for the club to be OK with the coach in order to fix a meeting and understand if there is the idea to continue to work together. “Anthony is very happy at Sunderland and he would like to stay. There are no problems regarding the terms of the contract. “We are waiting for the club to call us.” Reveillere started 15 times in the Premier League after Sunderland were forced to consider the Bosman market for an emergency defensive solution last Autumn, but he proved to be an astute addition. However, he is only likely to be used in a back-up role next season behind Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt, while Sunderland may also look to recruit another left-back. But Brown is expected to depart, with Sunderland looking to revamp their central defensive options, to leave John O’Shea as the sole veteran remaining. Brown has enjoyed a remarkable return to the first-team picture over the last 18 months after Sunderland had offered to pay up the remainder of his contract following almost two years on the treatment table. The former Manchester United man has made 59 appearances over the last two seasons, even though he has continued to be troubled by niggling knee problems. So rightback covered for a season. Quality CB in, probably virgil van dijk and a new leftback. Robertson is the obvious choice for me. Any preference on a CB and a LB?
Wouldn't have a prb with that, Rev would be very useful as back up, think big Wes is done now but we,ve got to sign minimum 1 centre back and maybe give Rodwell a go there pre-season
I'd say Either 3 cbs or 2 cbs and move Rodders, that would leave a Midfield slot free for either(my 1st and 2nd choice) Fer and Diame with Bridcutt out the door GKs Pants Pickford RBs Rev Jones CBs O'Shea Rodwell van dijk Coates LBs PVA Robertson CMs Catts Seb Fer/Diame Gomez/New AM Giacc Than hopefully we can bring in another AM and get shot of Gomez. Feel with Giacs injuries, age and the fact he's not quick anyway, he'll need to come central. That's taking shape nicely. Injection of pace and a striker would be needed.
Sad about Wes, but he has had a great career, albeit plagued with injury problems here, but when he played at the top of his game he was awesome.
I've stated before I'd personally keep both for another year but I can see the logic here in ending it with Wes. If he's actually retiring I'd look to have him in a coaching role but maybe he's not interested in that. As recently as WBA at home he was top class on the field. Maybe this latest injury has convinced him to call it a day. What a good player he's been for the club though, since his resurrection 2 yrs ago. Thanks Wes, orange forever.
I'd be worried about giving Wes any kind of role at the club. I saw him on family fortunes and he has to be one of the most stupid people I've ever seen. Did you see it? Funny as ****.
Only foreign players seem to have some brains these days. Think it's the right idea for idea for Wes though, his knees must be ****ed.
PVA has been excellent all season, and is getting better. Now an attacking player at right back. Talking about family fortunes, I have the Max bygraves classic " turkey " show taped. name a famous Irishman answer " Disrelli " !. Youtube for the rest.
