I would of closed this thread but there are some good topics up for debate here that would relate to all F1 drivers. I for 1 only expect to see them on a race weekend. I dont care if they are being whored to sell me crap! If any marketing that is tolerable is the marketing of the F1 team over city exibitions etc etc. Lewis Hamiltons management choice is a puzzling one and was better off with his dad who is now a inside man in managing drivers! ..Andy Murray is a fool too! Nom Nom Nom Nom NOM! NOOM NOOOOM!
Firstly, welcome to not606, STG! I'm not taking sides here but I'd like to quote a couple of things SaintChris said earlier. Actually, I think I'll quote his whole comment, because he has highlighted some important aspects of being a modern-day, top-level racing driver: Don't you think Chris makes a good point?
It is a very good point. India and back in a day, switch on, play your part, do the work, even though your time clock's completely out of sync... Of course he and Jenson are going to moan. Who doesn't moan about their job sometimes, even if they love it? This was a WUM article but I'm pleased to see that even though we took the bait, it's been a reasonable discussion.... Munch, crunch, nom, nom, nom...
Well, I for one think that this is a thread well-worthy of keeping open. As you say Bando, it raises a few interesting points, even though they may initially have been presented in such a way as to look like a wind-up. I must admit, I wondered for a moment too but I believe STG is making a genuine point, even though I feel there are valid arguments which he may have given less credit to. It would be a shame to close the thread, especially with it being STG's debut! Besides, I think there is plenty more to thrash out here if people can remain in control of their passion!
I feel sorry for their hard efforts whilst there are people doing 50hr shifts in hospitals at all times of day and night, flying to india is such a strain isnt it, wouldnt want to be doing that! You just made this personal, maybe next time make your point without doing that. Also do you think F1 drivers are beyond criticism or is it because your favourite driver is involved? Let me assure you if Fernando or Felipe had made those comments then you would get exactly the same response from me.
I also googled this story and there is some basis in truth in it seems, if the person who started the thread is seen as a wum that's nothing to do with me, I'm responding to the article I saw in a non-personal way.
Can I just say also has anybody ever seen me being critical of drivers on here since January, I don't do it, but from what I can see an F1 driver has said his workload is too much and I'm entitled to disagree without being called a 'joke'.
Time out for me I think on this board I think, don't like posting when it gets personal, that's the second time recently will check back from time to time if things improve.
I just feel at the moment everything is against Lewis... Talk of him leaving Mclaren **** car Fans outraged by his driving style Killing people Everytime I come on here there is always something Lewis has done wrong. Fair enough if he really said something like a twat. I am a fan of his and always will be and I really even at the toughest moments try and stay calm and not say anything I will regret and think whether he was in right or wrong. For this situation... Well I think he is just giving his opinion, whether you hate him , love him or like him he doesn't care what you think he only cares what he thinks about himself, and I admire that.
Don't go. Stay here and debate. I am sorry if I offended you I just wanted to give my honest opinion.
I'm not entirely sure how you can construe my comments as a personal attack? I just find it quite unbelievable that you can be so critical of Lewis, hence my query as to whether the thread, or your responses, were a joke. Do you not think Nurses doing 50hr shifts bitch about it? I am sure they do. Soldiers in Afghan surely bitch about the heat and the sand, just a Lewis complains that his sponsor commitments are too much. All three of these people do a job they love, of that there is no doubt. How before you go off on a moral rage as to how I can compare Nurses/Soldiers with Hamilton or any other driver consider this: Many people go into medicine because it's what they love or have always wanted to do. People join the Army for a myriad of reasons, but again it's generally one of those things that you've always wanted to do. Hamilton is a racing driver, because he always dreamt of being one and was one of the very lucky and very talented few to make it. Doctors/nurses do it to save and help people. Soliders join for similar reasons, for the camarderie, combat etc. Racing drivers do it to race. I have no doubt that Doctors/nurses bitch when they work for too long or have too much admin. So do soldiers and so do racing drivers. So would anyone. Anyway, NICK HCAFC - apologies if I offended you. (PS - Extreme examples I know, but just making a point)
You see, if this was any other driver, everyone would be fine with it. Actually GUEST posted a link showing that Jenson felt exactly the same way, so why is it any different for Lewis? Lewis proved at Silverstone he should change nothing about his driving style, if it hadn't hadn't have been fore his fuel problem, he could have been on the podium. Mclaren him and Jenson down this weekend. Theres nothing wrong with the way Lewis behaves, so are people finding little childish ways of having a dig at him. Jenson says there is nothing wrong with his driving style, and they both have the same views on the car and the workload, so why is it different with lewis?
Yes Lewis should stay the same, but it wasn't a fuel problem, they under fueled him just like with Nico at China. Both were lighter at the start and the teams didn't expect them to get out in front or up the field so early. Both failed to get on the podium because they had the advantage at the start but screwed themselves for the end. If McLaren didn't do it, he might of never overtaken so many cars at the start and had a worse result. If he wasn't under fueled how do we not know he would of made contact with another car and DNF'd being that bit heavier? Just except the result and be happy he got away with 4th and not worse.
I think the bad smell that always seems to follow Lewis is down to bad PR. He has had this problem since he joined F1. Maybe if he gave up on trying to be a showboat like Beckham and focus on being the driver we know he can be. I think Lewis is a great guy but as topical we know the media is a horrible machine!
I want to make a comment here and it has nothing to do with Hamilton or McLaren or who did what at the last Grand Prix or any which went before. This forum needs to become self-moderating. Now! This means all of us pulling together for the good of the forum. However, it does not mean we cannot disagree! The solution is simple to say but far more difficult in practice than the following words which I am about to write, which I sincerely hope you will read. It will require an effort from every single member, including me and including every person who is called a moderator. Take a breath; this is nothing personal in any way whatsoever and is no reference to any single event or series of events in the whole history of this young and ambitious forum. Avoid personalising your responses to those who hold a different view. - ALWAYS! - No exceptions whatsoever. If you see a personalised comment which you feel is directed at yourself (this is the tricky bit); show the whole forum that you are above reacting to it! It will very quickly become appreciated by the general consensus, and may even result in being respected by the original protagonist. Try to be respectful to the ideas and opinions of others. - Please! Let's all help make this forum the very best there is. Seriously. It really does have that potential. We have some great members here but there is a distinct lack of discipline with the manner in which some members react to being prodded by others (or even just thinking that they are being prodded). I hope it will be realised that this whole comment of mine is not directed at any single person or group of people, but the whole forum. Let's get together. Let's appreciate that we all share a common passion and that the minor differences in our preferences within this great big thing called 'motorsport' are simply that: minor! Have a great evening and come back tomorrow with a fresh outlook on the way this will, thanks to our collective efforts, become realised. And finally: thanks. ___________________________ P.S. If it is felt that this comment should be posted elsewhere, I will leave it entirely to those who hold the best interests of the forum at heart and will be entirely in agreement for its use anywhere within this forum.
So true cosicave, ive seen some things not accustomed to not606 over the last few days on various threads, but i suppose some things have happened which will ineviably cause divides.
I love you Cosi! seriously.... I concur completely. Let us throw off the shackles of our differences and enjoy the gift of motorsport!
