Apparently `having doubts about whether he is the right man for the next step`involves accepting that the one man may be ok. for the one thing ie. getting us up but we need another to keep us there ? My worry is that this philosophy leads into a blind alley - ie. we have no continuity and nobody will want the job for any other reason than maybe kick starting or saving their careers in the short term. Will there ever be another manager at Watford who is able to plan ahead ? If not then I really dread the future.

If Jokanovic really did price himself out of a new contract it was not a very wise move. I cannot see him getting a better offer from another Premier League club. He may have squandered his chance to coach at that level. He may get Championship offers---and be a formidable force in the Championship-- but not any higher than that. In the meantime the Pozzos have a good idea of what they want from a coach, and have been both ruthless and effective in their appointments. They will give the coach the best available playing resources and expect him to deliver.

Seems to be plenty of rumours going around.

Slav changing from a Serbian agent to an English one, which is when his wage demands increased... And one including as mentioned before, a 250% pay rise

That Gino was offering a low wage knowing Slav wouldn't sign as they never really wanted him next season, and always wanted to bring Flores in

Whatever the real reasoning, I have faith the owners will make the right decisions for he club, and the press will put Slav on a pedastal and bemoan how we have treated and sacked yet another manager

I have to agree. We have had three seasons of the Pozzos, 5 different 'head coaches', and have been in the play off final in one and runners up (90 seconds from Champions) in another. One of the most successful periods in our history, and significantly better than 20+ years preceding it, even allowing for the promotion under Boothroyd or 2nd time under GT. All successful businesses plan succession and I trust the Pozzo's know what they are doing even if we can speculate (and that is all we can do) about what is happening.

    Standard:

Slavisa Jokanovic is leaving Watford after contract talks broke down, with the Serbian demanding 150 per cent more than he was being offered.
The 46-year-old departs less than a month after he led Watford into the Premier League and former Atletico Madrid manager Quique Sanchez Flores is now the frontrunner to take charge.
Jokanovic joined the club in October and signed a contract until the end of next month worth around £400,000.
Following promotion, Watford offered him a substantial increase and believe it was a fair sum for a manager with no top-flight experience. It is understood Jokanovic wanted more than double the offer but Watford owner Gino Pozzo would not be held to ransom.
It has been suggested that Jokanovic is being forced out but Watford had hoped to reach an agreement. Pozzo was not willing to meet his wage demands because he has always insisted Watford work to a sustainable business model.
Pozzo, who is looking for Watford’s fifth manager in less than a year, has shown he is not afraid to act decisively.
It is understood there was also an issue over the length of the contract, with Jokanovic wanting a three‑year rolling deal but Watford were only willing to give him a 12-month rolling agreement.
After failing to settle on a deal with the former Chelsea midfielder, Pozzo quickly drew up contingency plans to ensure a head coach will be in place for the start of pre-season next month.
Flores could be appointed soon and has been out of work since leaving Getafe in February. The 50‑year-old Spaniard won the Europa League with Atletico in 2010, when they beat Fulham in the final.
Jokanovic has previously said he wanted to stay at Watford after becoming only the third foreign manager to win promotion to the Premier League.
He has been linked with several clubs, including Newcastle and Sunderland, who both narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship

I think that under the Pozzos the manager is not regarded as a long term appointment. It is hard especially for English fans to get used to that when we were used in the past to continuity in management -I think that is gone for us under the Pozzos but that does not have to be a bad thing. I was raised a Spurs fan and even now can tell you the name of most of their players from the sixties - same actually goes for the sixties Watford players when I began to go to their matches.

That is no longer the case - players have long been free agents coming and going to order and now it seems managers are too. It is only the fans who reperesent continuity in a club - is that so very bad?

    From the Mirror.. my italics.

Slavisa Jokanovic was offered just a £1000-a-week pay rise for guiding Watford to a £130million promotion.
Watford cut ties with the man who led them back into the big time after he rejected a new £500,000-a-year deal.
That offer was a small increase on the wages Jokanovic accepted when he was appointed in October and signed a short-term deal until the end of this season.
    Instead,
Serbian Jokanovic wanted around £1.5m-a-year and the security of a three-year deal after masterminding Watford’s return to the Premier League after eight years away.
But owner Gino Pozzo refused to meet Jokanovic’s demands and, with relations understood to already be strained between the pair, the club were forced to look elsewhere.
The Hornets are closing in on former Atletico Madrid boss Quique Sanchez Flores.

To the outsider does not sound an unreasonable request...

Continuity in the position of head coach in our system is not critical as it is in a managerial position. What is important is the structure and the system, the indicvidual has to work within that system to get the best out of the players but is not the engine merely a tuning component. That's not to say that the position is without merit and the correct appointment will make the difference but ther is nothing to be concerned about as this type of manouvering will become more and more frequent. The Pozzos would have been mad if the press are to believed to bow to the demands of a 3 year contract at 1.5 million a year. There is a high percentage chance that a coach change would have been called during the season at some point and paying off the contract at 4.5 million would have been detrimental to the clubs finances whereas if a reasonable 0.8 million for 1 year had been agreed rolling contract, 100% bonus for staying up, increase built in season on season whilst in the prem at say 10% would have been fair for both sides. All speculation but if its slav or his agent who let the figures go public then I wouldn't want him on my staff....

Don't agree..... the Pozzos hold all the cards don't they.... and they already have a bad reputation over McKinley this season.

Of course we will never know the full truth.... BUT I feel for SJ.... he was used and then disposed of...

Funny after all that we have been through at Watford over the years.. and we are now favouring our owners against our managers...

HOWEVER.. of course without the Pozzos we would have been in an awful situation financially...

The vast majority of supporters are favouring our owners clearly because of their actions so far which has been hugely positive for the club. SJ mutually agreed terms with the owners last season, if his demands were as reported then the Pozzos were correct in refusing his demands. We don't want the new pile of cash to be frittered away.

In 3 years would we really hold one very short term mistake over McKinley against them - the press might but the fans won't - they were proved right. The Pozzos hold all the cards because they own them. I do not feel the least bit sorry for SJ -he came on a contract he agreed; it was paid and he does not want a new one on the terms the Pozzos want to pay - his choice not theirs. If the figures are to be believed I would not want to dole nearly £5m to a manager who could fail and be sacked. We have been down the Prem overspending road twice before - thank goodness for the Pozzos.
The road we are on is now very different - footbally astute and financially savvy owners - refreshing or what.

I totally agree - and a £1k a week pay rise for what he achieved seems a bit low - I suspect it's the 3 years contract that was the major sticking point rather than the sums involved. Unfortuiantely all we can do is specualte as nobody knows the truth apart from those involved.

Yes I feel the same about SJ. It's difficult not to support the owners though as they have been absolutely brilliant for the club so far - but I definitely don't like this episode one bit.
I actually think one of the key issues is a cultural difference. This kind of thing is not unusual in Spain and Italy and I think we might just have to get used to it. Still doesn't sit easily with me though.

    Watford have a page here.

Watford players celebrating, they play in the Premier League this year likely under another coach..

Team Watford, who secured their place in the Premier League next season, will probably replace the manager anyway. The company has discontinued contract extension discussions with Slaviša Jokanović.

Instead, Watford have contract talks with Quique Sanchez Flores, the former manager of Atlético Madrid and Getafe, to take over. He would be the fifth boss of one year.

Jokanović is said to have asked for a pay rise after the team secured a place in the Premier League, but Watford direstors believed he requested on too much.He took over the team in October and won 21 of 36 games, but the team ended in second place English B-League.

Before Jokanović took over three men had led the team in the season. Beppe Sannino resigned at the end of August and Oscar Garcia was appointed in his place. He retired because of health at the end of September and Billy McKinlay took. His work lasted only eight days before Jokanović took over.

Slaviša Jokanović for Real Sociedad. When David Moyes moves from Spain to Sunderland Real Sociedad will need a new head coach.

    Yes.... agreed......

It is not since SEJ was in charge that I have held the club's owners in any esteem. My association has been with managers.

BUT/AND Senior Mgt must have some responsibility for manager/head coach turnover.

I do not hold that the Pozzos are all right and SJ all wrong in this....
