Am not too sure about that - when you look at the clubs who pay players that & check the manager salaries, you find if they are not actually ahead, they're not that far behind. Even Villa, who finished fourth from bottom, pay their manager £2m

Bow to your superior knowledge BB. Thought it was just the way that players earned more than managers. If that's the case though, hasn't SJ got a case asking to earn more than say, Troy?

    *Garry Monk*
    Swansea City
    0.5

    *Gus Poyet*
    Sunderland
    0.5

    *John Carver*
    Newcastle United
    0.8

    *Alan Pardew*
    Crystal Palace
    0.8

    *Mark Hughes *
    Stoke City
    0.9

    *Roberto Martínez*
    Everton
    1.5

    *Tony Pulis*
    West Bromwich
    1.5

    *Ronald Koeman*
    Southampton
    2

    *Sam Allardyce*
    West Ham United
    2

Hughes & Pardew have significant bonus clauses.

I found these figures from someone who was looking at managers outside the very top teams. Not that sure where he found them, and I wouldn't think they might be spot on as clubs do not tend to publish such things.

Tbf 3 at least 3 quit rather than got sacked.

Mind you as said before managers and players will demand more now we have gone up.

Of course we don't want to do a QPR though but you have to take a risk?

After all anyone we want will demand something...

Bet the Geordies would be horrified to see John Carver earning £800k!

I think you have made a good point. He cannot be on the breadline having had a successful playing career, so maybe he puts his reputation and family ahead of trying to keep us in the division, something that history says is difficult.

Following this debate with interest. I'm surprised at how unconcerned I am. The Pozzos have three teams in the top divisions of three national leagues: Spain, Italy and England. I'm going to assume they know what they are doing.

Listening to TalkSport discussing us this evening and listening to Alvin Martin giving the Pozzos advice was, quite frankly, laughable.

But we are losing that connection of the manager with the club..... now the head coach is just expendable like any player... how can that affect tactics, training etc???

    For those who missed it...

Opened up on Talksport by saying "what is going on - will anyone want to manage them"

"Probably not paid enough before hand and "no-one gets a fair crack"

The presenter clearly didn't know about how the managers left which is no surprise...and seemed to think the FL had done nothing to stop us getting loan players in!

Alvin Martin said clubs like us do need to be careful with money and basically belittled us by saying we never planned to come up and were favourites for the drop.

Depends what the circumstances are. Negotiations have been taking place, so I assume they have broken down. Not great for continuity, but quick decision needed to minimise any impact.

Must be true if the BBC says so.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32885212

I am not sure of the third last paragraph, and a lot of the rest is cleverly worded speculation.

I firmly believe Mr Redknapp has the potential to spend his way through even the most successful clubs' resources. God help Chelsea if he ever got access to Roman Abramovitch's wallet!!

Joka was very cagey as the end of the season was approaching, his language although always reserved did seem to cast quite a doubt over whether he would be here next season. Excellent championship season, good tactically, players united good firm management with full support from the board got us through. Is he right for the next phase who knows? If the Pozzos were confident he was the right man tey would make it happen and his compensation would be a private matter. Granada is his perfect next move.

Thinking about this the situation between Watford and Slavisa Jokanovic is such now, that irrespective of what is actually going on, the two parties should separate. The reasoning is that with all the speculative reporting, in the aftermath of a settlement, one of the parties will appear weak. The club cannot be seen to have backed down as this will have a detremental effect in their business dealings elsewhere, they will be seen as a soft option, and likewise with SJ. He will ruin his chances of being seen as a tough no nonsense manager, clubs will muck him about thinking he will just accept whatever they do and players of a certain disposition will attempt to play on a percieved weakness.

The way ths has been handled is not one of the clubs finer moments and should really have been done and dusted weeks ago, whether SJ was to stay or not, rather than have all the roumours and speculation played out across the news media. Especially with helpful hints and tips from Talksport, newspapers and the few keyboard warriors who comment in the Watford Observer.

Someone said he wanted a three or four year deal - that would be a stumbling block for the Pozzos as they do not give time to managers who do not deliver. The solution may be to offer a hefty bonus for keeping us up. Win win - and if SJ is not confident he can do it with the resources he will have then maybe he is not the man we would need anyway.

Agree with pretty much all of this Zen. On the money front we simply do not know what is being asked for and what has been offered. All I would say is that we all have our own opinions of what we are worth and having just been highly instrumental in delivering the owners their biggest pay day ever he clearly feels entitled to a decent share of the spoils. Given the stupid money ebing throqwn about in the agem now I certainly wouldn't begrudge him.

You're right though - looks like a clean break will be best all round now which is a huge shame. If the club do back down now and it goes pear shpaed it won't take some sections of the support long to turn on SJ. The comments in the press are a timely reminder to us all that the club is going to be in the media spotlight like never before - it's not a very comfortable feeling :(

Either the Pozzos did not plan ahead - which knowing them seems unlikely - or they had their doubts whether he is the right man to take us the next step up. If that is the case they may have been prepared to let him stay on a "reasonable" increase ?? doubled salary plus bonus ?? but had a mark in the sand they would not go to -including length of contract. A lot of people make a big issue of the £120m that promotion is worth but in fact half of that is parachute payments after you get relegated- so is not really to be counted. Many clubs - us included - have fallen foul of bad money decisions after previous promotions -for me I do not want a repeat of relegation and near bankruptcy so am pleased to see owners who do not regards money as unimportant

yes he was cagey and looking positively :
    1) he may have had other plans in any case
    2) he knew they did

but second guessing why a possible fifth head coach in a season is not a good place to be

    AND

COACH - how can he be a head coach when seemingly the mgt care so little about continuity- training - bringing players on- tactics etc....
