But we're led to believe there's a final vote on if a player should be signed or not and he has a vote, he's obviously a company man with FSG's financial interests at heart and knows nothing about football, so how can we trust his judgement on whether certain players are good value or not. He should just be signing the cheque not getting involved in the discussion about what qualities a certain player might bring to the club.
Not sure mate - I have my theories on how it works and I read what connected journalists say also. However, I tend to get shot down when explaining it so will keep quiet on the matter. Agree with what you say though.
Basically, I think everyone around the table needs to be in agreement before a transfer is made. This means no one man is in control but nor can a player be forced upon the manager. Also fits in with what Ayre, Brod and Henry previously said.
Whatever happened to a manager or scout spotting a useful player or players, the manager then has a word with the club secretary about it who then brings the matter up to the board for approval(or disapproval)
How often does a club manage to groom a group of players of a similar age to provide the backbone of a great side? I can only think of Manchester United in 1992 and further back in history the great Ajax and Bayern teams of the 70s and Celtic's European Cup winning team in 1967!!
One club that consistently produces its own talent because of the club philosophy is Athletic Bilbao. They have a super young player in Inaki Williams who imo is going to be a huge star in the future.

Most big and successful teams have a DoF model. The 'manager' is merely the first team coach and works with the players he's given. Arsenal are the only biggish club who give Wenger full autonomy and that's because he's earnt the right.
They all had someone helping out. Fergie had Gill doing stuff for him for years. Kenyon worked at Chelsea and Man Utd. Man City have had a couple in their short time including Vieira.
