Andre Wisdom has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, the club are pleased to announce. The 22-year-old has committed his future to the Reds by penning the new deal. Wisdom has made 22 first-team appearances for Liverpool since being handed his debut by Brendan Rodgers in a Europa League tie against Young Boys in September 2012. The England U21 defender joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan in July 2014, where he made 24 Barclays Premier League appearances during 2014-15. Wisdom also spent time on loan with Derby County in 2013-14.
Yes first it is good news I hope it is not merely to set him up for sale. He is a decent free option at full back we've worked hard to grow from when we aquired him. Therefore I hope it says rodgers might actually rate him not that he is now going to be loaned out yet again. If have too much work to be doing down the whole middle of the side to be investing in more right fulls Wisdom should start RB next year for us and then greezs man can come bin to compete when fit We need too much improvement at CF, CM, CB this summer
Got to say, that was my first thought too but why a 'long term' deal (which I take as at least three years) rather than say two years?
Never really like Coates, big, lumbering and clumsy. However I watched the Arsenal game which saved them and Coates actually looked decent, however I still think he's on his way out. Think its about time Ilori was used. Why have we offered a contract to Toure, he is just a calamity. Experience doesn't count if you're an accident waiting to happen.
Okay, I'll put it another way; a useless Coates on about £40k PW or a useless Toure on about £80k PW...? My point is, if we're keeping Toure as a fourth choice squad filler, I'd rather use one of Ilori, Wisdom or Coates.
Great news to keep both Toure and Wisdom IMO. However, it kinda smacks that Rodgers is using this is a quick fix whilst he spends most money on the attack. Which I think is suicidal.
Depends whether we get a DM, the defence would automatically look much better IMO. I think we both know the answer to that though lol
Good to see. Played quite a bit for WBA until Pullis came in and wanted defenders that could smack it upfield rather than pass it so got very little game time. Still wonder whether he'll eventually move into the CB position
A bit of sense at last, I can't tell you how many times I watched us this year and thought "surely Wisdom couldn't be performing any worse than this shower"....and even if he was as bad as Lovren at least we'd have saved £20 million ****ing quid (actually I can tell you how many times I thought it....it was every time I saw Lovren getting raped by average striker x,y and z) The simple fact Rodgers has to get his head around (or whoever we start the season with) is that Can NEEDS to be in our midfield one way or another. We totally lack presence and any sense of calm in there and it kills us game after game. In the long run having this season at the back may benefit Can in terms of seeing more of the game and developing defensive qualities but for ****s sake it is such an obvious waste of talent having him as a third centre back. If (big if) we can get the defence strengthened it means we immediately strengthen the midfield too. Wisdom isn't the be all and end all of that strengthening but it was madness not having him around the squad this season.
Always thought it was ironic that Liverpool had a player with the surname Wisdom considering the financial decisions the club have made down throughout the years.
He was struggling before Pulis came in and has had a very poor season at WBA, my family are all WBA fans so I've seen him a lot. He's worth bringing back and giving a go but he'll need to improve big time.
