Six professionals are to leave the club having been informed that their contracts will not be extended when they come to an end this summer. Jos Hooiveld, Artur Boruc, Cody Cropper, Omar Rowe, Jake Sinclair and Chris Johns have been released from their contracts. Furthermore, Dan Demkiv, Mark Irvine, Niall Mason and Chris Regis have left the club at the end of their two-year scholarships. The club wishes every departing player the very best of luck for the future, and thanks them for their efforts and service during their time at Southampton. That is all.
Hope they all get their futures sorted out...it is hardest for the scholars. Good luck to them...difficult time, though they know they have a good grounding for another football job or any other job. Time for reflection about their futures.
Surprised about Cody thought he was very highly rated... rowe surprising as well but he sustained a pretty bad injury by all accounts.. none of the others that surprising I expect Boruc will sign for bournemouth...
Special thanks to Jos & Artur who both played massive parts for us in recent years (in different ways) - Those guys won't be forgotten in a while. All the best to them and the others as well. As Babarussi says, I'm pretty sure we will be seeing Artur next year anyway.
We have stepped up since coming back to the EPL...our standards are higher. We have to ask if a player is good enough for a top PL club...we may not be yet, but we can't renew contracts for those we know will never make it. Les Reed believes that players shouldn't have their paths blocked....inevitably that means some older scholars have to move on. Cody Cropper can't displace Gazza...need I say more?
Best of luck to all our nippers, hope you find a decent club and can prosper, even if it's not at Saints. And thanks to all our old time servants who have reached the ends of their careers.
Thats a great tribute to Jos. Comes across as a really nice guy too. Maybe we should have kept him this season and played him as centre forward when required!
Sinclair couldn`t get a game at Hibs on loan this season, so no surprise I suppose. Sad to see Jos go - scoring in promotion game v Coventry, and in both games (I think) that season v WHU. Good luck Jos.
Best of Luck Box head. Gone, but not forgotten. Smashing fella and really played his part in the short time he was with us.
Was randomly at his debut game against Queen of the South...Was fairly obvious he wasn't going to make it....very much a League 2/Conference player although it would be nice to be proved wrong
