I like Milner and think he would improve the squad/team. I'm just not sure that his position is really a priority right now - DM, RB and of course strikers all look far more urgent. And while he's on a free, the wages won't be small. I'm tempted to agree with Jimmy's point about waste of resources, but he's a player who would improve us and bring some much-needed big club experience/mentality. I fear it could give Rodgers even more excuse to be playing people out of position rather than playing a formation that fits the players.
That's just how you wrongly interpretated it Hopefully, we'll sign Milner so my point is proven but if we don't, I'm sure he'll prove to be a quality purchase for whoever gets him.
Errrrrrmmmm.. ok lets talk reality here. milner. he is a top 6 player. He would play for southampton this year He would certinly play for spurs He's blow out ****e away day in day out You would have to say he's played for the 2nd placed side in big games and is brought in for those The reality is the AVERAGE wage is 43k per week last year. If we think ok top 6 player... 75k... ok well that sounds not unbeleiveable right? probably actually CHEAP. now.... 25k per week bonus on top for being a free... ok lets think about that. 25k x 52 = 1.3mil per year. x 4 years = 5.2 million If i offered you milner for 5.2million fee and 75k per week you'd have to say thats pretty good value Now some more points. Coutinho is on 75k per week right now... worth it right? Henderson is on 100k Ibe is on 35k half that 70k-75k rate... for a 19 year old player we have developed a bit... toures who will pay 10 games max is getting 50k per week... We have got to get real here folks. wages are on the rise. If city really offered him 165k per week and we are grumbling about 100k we need our heads examined.
If Milner was at £75k, then I wouldn't mind. But he will want a lot - and there is no way he will turn down £165k for £100k at LFC. Which is why I think we will offer £140k minimum.
I said £100k plus. But that merely re-affirms my position that even £100k is too much for him, let alone £140k.
you are just digging your self a hold. you'd take him at 75 but not 100.. i said specifically if 5,2 mil plus 75 was a steal.. i suppose you'll deny thats what you meant now. In the end you deserve joe allen, kolo toure and thiago ilori too.
What are you on about? So I don't know what I'm talking about because I wouldn't mind him at £75k but not at £100k? How about we give everyone a £25k pay rise since it's such a small amount in your eyes?
That's fair enough but he's pushing 30. His best years are past him, and for a player who uses pace and power, his physical attributes will be on the wane. I rather invest that money in a younger player with more ability and potential.
When the investment is just wages, sell on values matter diddly so I don't see the issue with age so long as he can still play which he can. Milner is the sort of player that will pay until his late thirties too (not saying well have him for ten years either)
you'd swear we were poor or something. I've said all along as long as his legs actually hold out its a good deal. to quibble over a wage these days in football is nuts... all that matters is results.
Signing Milner would put two more PL winners medals on our camp. Might be the only ones too depending on whether Kolo Toure and Mario Balotelli stay #mancitytrio
If he was called Milnerinho and had won 2 league titles in Spain and you were getting him on a free, you'd be creaming your kecks. He's a top player and in terms of the total player investment a total steal - even at £100k per week, as to put that into context his total contract cost - even on a 4 year deal will be equivalent to the purchase cost alone of ****ing Lovren.
As long as Milner is still hungry and still puts in a good shift we should pay that little extra for his services.
