I have been quite open about my feelings on Ramsey of late but i picked up on something interesting yesterday. I keep hear fans saying 'let him get his own team before you judge him', which is a fair point as he inherited Redknapp's team. However yesterday in an interview when asked about future players he said "i think they (Les & TF) are looking at players" He thinks? So he isn't actually bringing in players he wants he is just basically doing what he is doing now, managing someone else team. This does not bode well.
He's a coach, always has been and always will be. The squad he inherited was borderline uncoachable imo. He'll have some input I'm sure and a younger, less ****ish squad will suit his coaching abilities.
I hope Sir Les has a good eye for players and can do a good job getting them in. The January window was not a good start though.
In two minds about this. On the one hand, I'm pleased he'll be able to focus only on the football, and getting the best from the players. On the other hand, he should surely have the option of bringing in the the players he wants. Hopefully it will be a good mix of Les and Tony working with Chris Ramsey to bring in the players, and Ramsey doing the job of getting the best out of them.
The reason Southampton and Swansea don't go tits up when a manager leaves is that they have ditched the cult of the personality approach which is the old style English manager, who makes all the decisions and pulls up in the motorway services car park to give or receive a brown envelope. The Director of Football is there to impose a style on the club from top to bottom and recruit at all levels to complement the style, the first team coach does just that, and should be replaceable from a list of like minded coaches the DoF has. Just like Koeman, Pochettino, Monk, Laudrup etc simply fitted into an existing system. Our challenge is does Ferdinand have the competence to set such a system up and will the board panic if it does not deliver in the first 3 months?
Other than Monk all the others have experience and TBH Monk didn't inherit a 'basket case' or need to completely rebuild in a lower division. All i will say is, that all the CR believers on here don't start moaning if we are bottom of Championship in December. For me if i am wrong i will actually be happy because it will mean we are doing well.
Ramsey is picking the players he wants to try and bring in, and by the same token he has already decided on the players that will be gone.
They all walked into clubs with a strong philosophy and didn't attempt to change it in their own image. I have no idea whether CR is any good or not, I don't think he can be judged on how he did with a bunch of players who knew they would be leaving anyway, and who were never good enough in the first place. But if he does cock it up, the fault will lie more with Ferdinand and Fernandes than him.
I think that everybody is quite rightly slightly nervous and jittery on this one. However, it is really too soon to make any real assessments. I really believe that we need to see what develops over the next 10 odd weeks until the new season kicks off. For sure there will be many exits and hopefully quite a few inputs. Rather than worry about this, I hope to watch "the show". I will be very pleased to pass judgement on the initial results when we play our first matches. I hope that the results will exceed my current expectations.
The good thing with Ramsey being in charge is that he knows who we need to get rid of. If, say Clement, came in he might think Toilett is a good player, I'll keep him, for example. Ramsey is ITK already.
If we are bottom but doing things the right way I won't be unhappy. The mistakes this club has made will take years to fix properly and if that means another relegation along the way then so be it.
Sorry Watford i cannot agree with that. If we go down again than Ramsey will be a failure and so will Les and TF. Surely that cannot be good for QPR. I agree Harry and Hughes have f@@ked us up with their bad signings and stupid contracts but a decent manager should be able to stop the rot for next season. If we go into the Championship with this much negativity then what's the point?
I'm not being negative. Just thinking about the long term. Norwich and Southampton for example- Going to the third tier allowed them to totally start anew. Not saying I don't want us to stay up at all but if the club is building properly then a few years of pain will be no bad thing
Agree, we need to do whatever it takes to break this cycle on gambling to get promotion in order to survive. Barton down the hatches and do it right. Of course I'll hope for more (that's what we do isn't it) but in many ways, the Summer is more important than the season. If we can show potential and an approach to build on (after what will be another complete overhaul) then I'll get a sense that we're doing it right and be placated. Having said that, Ramsey was on Goals on Sunday (Monday) - sounds like a Mamas and Papas song - and said thee aren't enough kids ready to take over yet so it'll be interesting to see how they implement the sustainable approach. I do think all at the club are in unison on this though.
I think they are in unison over not throwing money at has beens any more Matt, I have no idea if they have established what kind of team/club we are, what type of football we will play etc etc. I have never heard Ferdinand voice any kind of opinion on what kind of football he likes.
I think the contracts were down to TF and Beard. Harry and Hughes picked the players and Beard went out and paid well over the top to get them to sign.
Les seems to hark back to his days at the club so probably that infused with some modern technique and style that Ramsey has leant on his coaching travels. You're right though, it is anyone's guess.
