Well said LL.......but I don't think there is freedom of speech anymore. The PC mary whitehouse tree hugging liberal leftie ****s ruined that.......

Personally I don't think there should be any political or religious things in football. Poppy wearing shirts or kick racism out of football either.

I think LL just means that footballers should be role models, simply because so many young people idolise them and want to be like them. I'm with you: they're not role models, and I don't think they should forced to be such. Nobody goes into football for the media coverage, they go in to play football. Young men make silly mistakes, and often commit reprehensible crimes but teenagers/young adults would still go out drunkenly clubbing, getting into fights etc irrespective of what their footballing heroes do. Not condoning what any of your list did, but young people with lots of money probably do the same and a lot worse without the media fixated on them.

They are footballers not role models.

Quote from charles barkley NBA legend,
    I
Just because I dunk a basketball doesn't mean I should raise your kids,
I'm not paid to be a role model, parent's should be role models.

I wish people would get of the role model banwagon, grow up and man up,ffs
    .
If you can't teach your kids the right way ,you need help.

Living in Australia, if you did something similar on ANZAC day and was so public about it (not that they wear poppys or anything but if you were against it on the day...), I couldn't even understand what sort of reaction there would be. You'd be driven out of the country if you were lucky I'd imagine.

Australians are incredibly patriotic mate, much more so than the americans I would say.

There is actually a warning put out on radio stations about if you go out on ANZAC day make sure that you are not anti-Australian or words to that effect. Its never a full scale problem but mainly because no one is, I couldn't imagine the reaction of a professional sportsman behaving in that manner on a day of remembrance.

And you don't think this narrow minded view is exactly what the Muslim fundamentalists are made of? Key word here is intolerance, and if the Aussies are really like that, then they've disappointed me.

I'm all for open mindedness. But that doesn't mean you can be disrespectful and hide behind the words of free speech.

I honestly believe if you want to live in a different country you should be respectful of their culture and not go out of your way to go against that.

So expressing an opinion is disrespecting culture? You lot fought on the wrong side of the war!

    A) i'm not Australian so saying "you lot" isn't actually correct.
    B) Australia fought with England in each war so are you saying England fought on the wrong side of the war as well? Not sure what you mean by that in truth
    C) You can be disrespectful while expressing an opinion, but can also express an opinion without being disrespectful.

In an age where you can pretty much choose where you want to live in the world, especially as a highly paid professional sportsman you should at least be respectful of the country you reside in.

My apologies. I was referring to you lot out there'. Didnt realise you were still an immigrant.
For a pedant (see A), you have a particularly inflammatory way with words. I think 'england' might be better expressed 'UK' or 'Great Britain'. As you are no doubt aware, I was aligning the Aussie narrow-mindedness to the Nazis. Clear enough now?
And simply not wearing a poppy falls into which category?
Again, same question - do you consider not wearing a poppy is disrespectful?

I would vote for any English party that would jettison Scotland so just once you are right.
As long as the Bank of England doesn't become the scots bank of last resort you lot can't **** off fast enough.
    Then let's start forced repatriation.

Oh dear, true colours showing. A bit far right of far right, methinks. Not your usual socialist attribute. Perhaps the BNP is the calling you've missed?
