Who was the other Lib-Dem big noise in the 80's, leader of the city council and owned a ships outfitters on the dock rd by the Baltic Fleet? Can't think of his name but there was rumour he was up to his eyeballs in backhanders.
It wasn't Colin "Cover Up" Hilton was it? Think he was more Henshaw era. Not sure mate.....gotta shoot off to bed but I've put a tune on the Music Thread for you
Nah it wasn't him, it was Sir Trevor someone? I'm off ya pop meself mate, I won't thank you for the vid until I've seen what it is first. Night Billy.
That's utter bollocks. LCC gave you lot permission to build on covenant ground and virtually gifted you it to boot.having doen so they rode roughshod over the protests once you decided to dramatically increase the height and size of the thing. The fact you never ****ing built it is neither here nor there. By offering up WHP they were merely being seen to be even handed and it's a ****ing **** hole anyway and the proposal allows for the building of new social housing together with the retention of a large public park area.
Keep your knickers on ball bag the planning application isn't even due in for about 6 months how can you be so certain? I totally agree it's a hole now...like the Anfield area's become (because of LCC and LFC) and yes Stanley Park had rotted too for the same reasons (beautiful now though they've done up the Isla Gladstone). That's not the point though is it....it's a public park and you know as well as I do if there are enough protests (plenty of them already) that it'll drag out for donkeys. Costs spiral, Everton and council both stumping up long term? Not happening. Don't get me wrong Uncle Joe would love it but it ain't happening Tobes as much as you wish it (unless you look at alternatives). Times have changed since Stanley Park was (wrongly) gifted to LFC. The Tories will pull this in just as they did the Welsh Streets a few months ago mainly just to piss Joe off if nothing else. The blues are asking for contributions already (and the bulk of the process ain't even started yet). Even Joe won't get away with gifting cah out now they are shutting every library on every corner and chopping jobs and services left right and centre. Anyway it took us over 20 years to destroy Anfield so much that we could swindle a chunk of the park and you think this will just happen overnight on Walton Hall Av etc?
Billy...do you know whats the score with Sefton Park Meadows? haven't heard anything about it for a while ?
Quite why Elstone's had the begging bowl out is beyond me given the massive new TV deal that'd be enough to secure funding to build the thing. ****ing embarrassing, and yes, there'd be no way LCC could assist in funding any build for the club, it wouldn't be legal. As for the Tories calling in a proposed scheme on public park land, they'd only do so if the scheme was deemed to be detrimental in any way to the area or surrounding areas, I fail to see how new social housing together with a new football stadium as part of a piece of land that's currently smack head central, would be viewed as such from apolitical standpoint. There'd be no interest nationally to squash a scheme like that. Don't forget the real reason Kirkby was stamped on was because of the threat the retail element was deemed to pose to the Duke of Westminsters Liverpool 1. Assuming this ever makes it to the table, it'll be passed imo.
Would have thought a deal or partnership with Peel Holdings would have been on the cards for EFC, maybe its because the club don't want to share ownership of the stadium that's holding them back but if that's the only way forward they should consider it, possibly with a chance to buy out their partner within a certain timescale.
The issue for the club is about the potential gain to risk decision that they're going to have to make at the point of committing to this scheme. The increased revenue for us is going to require more fans turning up and we simply don't have waiting lists for ST's so it's a leap of faith assuming that the loss of the 4,000 awful obstructed view seats at Goodison and the incremental 10k of seating will result in us filling the place most weeks. For a bean counter like Elstone (as that's what he really is) it's a massive gamble given the huge amount of cash it's going to take to build the thing. However, it's a case of us having to, our current home is barely fit for purpose in the modern game, we need to invest to stand still in reality. The progress has been slow as both LCC and EFC want to avoid giving any potential protest groups any open goals by leaving any gaps in the planning process.
Come on mate you don't think they can easily sell off a public park with the excuse of "but there will be social housing too m'lud" One massive reason they could struggle with it is this.....the council claims there are no alternative sites available, yet they already own one far more suitable. At the start of the process the council and EFC rejected Stonebridge Cross as a location. Why? Well it was already allocated for development (Amazon warehouse) which is fair enough. Amazon pulled out of that site in 2012 though and built the warehouse in Wales instead. 50 acre site....nearer the motorway....no immediate plans for it...a prime site the council owns yet they say they need the land from a public park in a deprived area because "there's no viable alternative". I'll be amazed if this will become an easy pass for the blues and the council especially now they got everyone's back up by asking for taxpayers money too....." Hi, we'd like to steal your land AND guess what....Uncle Joe is going to give us your money to fund our building work"
He was stubborn and unassuming, but he had to be goaded into taking over from Shanks because he never saw himself as worthy and by the same logic I think his family, friends, the club and supporters would have goaded him into accepting a well deserved honour.
You sound a bit bitter to me mate Stonebridge Cross still has redevelopment plans in place doesn't it? It was still being stated as such as recent as Feb this year anyway. We'll see what happens but I think your summation about the Tories and the green space will be proven wrong if it ever gets to the planning sign off stage, which with these jokers at the helm is far from a certainty though
Yes they are trying to claim it's still set aside for Amazon but Amazon haven't shown any interest since 2012 because they have already bloody built their depot elsewhere...basically LCC know the only way to get the parks built on fully is by one of the clubs doing it, it's not like they can gift WHP to Amazon is it We'll see mate but i think you're underestimating both Labours incompetence in Liverpool and the Tories willingness to embarrass Joe at every turn.....and I'm not bitter about it because it's the blues I'm bitter about the fact our fair city gets shat on by everyone it elects
At the moment they are still trying to push it through mate. Obviously it is being fought at every step and I think the seperate groups around the city have finally got together to lobby against it. Basically Joe has pissed off a lot of people by trying to build on Sefton Park, Newsham, Queens Drive Woods, WHP and Woolton Woods all at the same time and now they are all working together as Save our Green Spaces they will have a fair bit more clout (although it will never change Joe's mind the beligerent old prick, I think we can all tell how often he goes to the park for a bit of exercise eh ). The funniest thing with Uncle Joe is that he actually tried to take credit for setting up the Green & Open Spaces Review Board, when in reality it's public knowledge it was the housing developers last year (in their Call For Sites submissions to the developing Local Plan) who called for a Green Space Review to identify green spaces for them to build houses on and extract the maximum profit thus getting Uncle Joe maximum council tax profits and "enhancing" his rep with his land developing cronies in the process....more "luxury apartments"....just what the city needs right now eh Uncle Joe....he's as bent as the Tories (...allegedly )
Thanks for the info Billy, glad all the different groups have got themselves organised. At this rate Uncle Joe will be in the House of Lords next to his evil twin Pickles.
