This is before I've even really spoken to them. They'll ask me a question "what time is it mate?" and I reply and then - bam - "you're not from round ere". If I manage to alienate people that quick then it's really some ****ing good going. And are you really, honestly, saying Hull people generally aren't insular? Even the city's biggest fan, and I love the place, would acknowledge that the people are very much that. All my family bar non live there and they're all very insular. Don't for one minute confuse me saying that I find Londoners to be friendlier and more welcoming than up north means I dislike my home city.
The issue is if he'd had named a country/continent, such as 'Id rather be skint then live in Africa' etc people would be in uproar - its defending an unjustified slur (in my eyes at least).
Well this one hasn't run as I thought it might. As someone who was skint in London and is now skint in Hull: Yes, there are some nice things in London to see and do. No, they are not worth the extra money required to live there (the exception being people who bought a place more than 10-15 years ago and those that work from home). If they put a tighter rein on housing benefit (which provides a floor for rent prices), you'd see how many poorer, working-class people could afford to live in anything but an HMO.
What are you trying to prove with this? I'm pretty sure you could find similar clips from every single city around the world. Did you see the HDM front page this week with a group of pissed up youths battering a shop owner who wouldnt let them in? Do you live in Hull by the way?
You are having a laugh arn't you? I had the misfortune to have to travel from Heathrow to the centre of London on the tube at rush hour. I have never met a ruder, more unfriendly bunch of pricks in all my life. I would of rather spent the time with a bunch of ******ed Leeds United supporters.
It was just offensive frankly. Are you one of these people that can't read other people's expressions or tones properly? One of them socially awkward types that don't seem to realise how socially awkward they are? I just find it hard to believe from my experiences that someone would be aggressive toward you for lacking a Hull accent. I moved away, my accent changed, I moved back, not once had a problem and I'm here all the time now. Some people pick up on my accent but at no single point have they come across aggressively when inquiring about it... and regardless, I've then not replied with "what's that got to do with it". If I'd noticed you weren't from Hull, said something to you and that was your response, I'd think you were being a prick. Insular behaviour and suspicious attitude? Bollocks. Why would a city with that mentality go for city of culture?
So are you suggesting i made up these accounts for fun on a football messageboard? Why am i bring painted here as someone who dislikes Hull? I never said anything critical of the place whatsoever. Just because i said in my experience people down sputh are more welcoming. All of you criticising London are doing the exact same thing that youre angry with the journalist about.
