Sniejder said he would be sad if Inter let him go, but he would pack up and move. He said the same thing before he moved from Madrid. He isn't a whiney little drama queen like Nasri. If Inter is willing to sell, then I'm sure fergie will be interested.
Guys, it's not beyond the realms of possibilities that we already have the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes and he goes by the name of Wayne Rooney. I have thought for sometime and discussed it many times last season at Old Trafford with other United fans that Rooney, with his love of dropping deep would make the perfect goalscoring "attacking midfielder". He can pick out a pass almost as accurate as Scholesy, can tackle much better than him and would score as many, if not more goals than the "Ginger Prince" in his hey day ! Rooney in that position for my money would be better than Nasri, Modric or Sneidjer put together. With young players coming through like Cleverley and Pogba, why do we have to go and spend silly money on any player that does not give us something that we all ready have. Maybe this is why Sir Alex has gone out and bought more forwards and why Berba is staying, so that Rooney can drop into midfield. Don't worry if we do not go out and buy an established super star Sir Alex has a master plan and you have to remember he is BRILL19NT !!!!
In my opinion the bolded part is the crucial part. When SAF says maybe the next few weeks will help us overcome it, he may well be referring to the transfer window, i.e. he may have his eye on a player but just needs to negotiate for them. You also ignored the other part of his quote: "It is impossible to get another Paul Scholes," he said. "But if we get a player along similar lines in terms of the quality of his passing and vision, we would have to do something." In other words, if we see a player that we believe is of similar quality to Scholes, i.e. Sneijder or Modric, and they become available we would have to do something, i.e. bid for that player. Admittedly this is all speculation, but so is your interpretation of it Valencia25. My opinion of the whole thing hasn't changed - we are still in the market for a CM, but all depends on who is willing to move and willing to be sold by their club. And we probably won't find that out until later this month, or even August, when clubs have had pre season friendlies to decide who fits their team and who doesn't, and have managed to acquire other targets.
"If the club decide to sell me, I'll go where they tell me to go," Sneijder told Vanity Fair. "If that happens I would be very sorry. My wife and I are happy in Milan and I would miss the city and Inter. "But anything can happen in football" ruling out? as for united not willing to pay wages what gets me about you is you always act like you're in the know with credible sources. who has told you we wouldn't be prepared to pay his wages? the same simpleton who told you liverpool had beaten us to the signing of phil jones. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/54340-Phil-Jones-deal-is-off please log in to view this image
If we don't sign a midfielder, I think it will be a huge mistake. Cleverly wasn't even outstanding at a poor Wigan team and was just dire for the England Under 21's. I don't think anyone expects him to be a capable Scholes replacement. Who else is going to take up the mantle from within? You can be fairly sure that Pogba and Tunnicliffe won't be given the games to prove if they are capable or not so I don't see how this is going to help. Bottom line is, there are plenty of capable players about. Why United limited themselves to a shortlist of a few unobtainable players in CM is beyond me. It is the position that clearly needed addressing most of all and we should have identified plenty of players there. Maybe we have but it doesn't look likely.
I really think that, until January at least, we should give both Tom Cleverly and Ravel Morrison a go in the first team. I'm still somewhat reserved about Cleverly but Morrison could be a real gem and it would do him some good to get some first team action.
"Merry" I think you will find it's the press that have drawn up the shortlist and I'm sure Sir Alex has his own ideas
Ferguson may have his own ideas but a year ago he claimed that when Scholes retired, he would have to spend big to replace him. Now, I don't care about whether we spend big to replace him or not. But what I do care about is that our midfield has been below par for a number of years now. If we start next season with the same central midfielders as last year minus Scholes and Gibson, that would be disastrous imo. And Cleverly really doesn't look up to it. Just my opinion but I've seen plenty of him now and the guy is not going to be a star imo. Pogba could be but I'll be surprised if he features next year.
I think we are looking at the wrong type of midfielder. I don't think we need a so called "attacking midfielder", we have that in Anderson, plus his allround game is much, much better than Nasri or Sneijder. It wouldn't surprise me if we bought a more combative midfielder, although this has only arisen since Fletcher was out for a while last season. I remember quite a few years ago when we were linked to Marcos Senna (probably before we bought Carrick?) and he would have been perfect at the time, so I'm not ruling out Fergie going in for someone like Lassana Diarra or Ever Bangea or even as someone else has mentioned on this thread Javi Martinez.
Absolutely agree that our midfield needs an injection of talent, so what do you think of my comments about Rooney taking up the " Scholes Role" ?
Rooney has played as a centre forward throughout his career. His best position is up front or as a second striker. If he was moved into midfield, then we would have a void up front. There is also the problem that he may not be able to adapt to midfield (if he could play there, surely he'd have been tried there, given the mediocrity in that area). Also, he has a suspect temperament at times and I feel that he would be susceptible to red cards in the hustle bustle of the centre of the park. Rather than trying to put square pegs in round holes, ferguson should either buy or give Pogba a chance imo. Asd I said before, Cleverly will get chances ahead of Pogba this year but i have real reservations about his ability to be a starter at United, when he looked so average at Wigan.
In an interview, Paul Scholes has been talking up the young stars already at United singling out Ryan Tunnicliffe, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, and Ravel Morrison for praise. Add to that Tom Cleverley and I would say it is a pretty exciting time to be a United fan. Ok, I did read it in The Mirror but still, we all knew that these players have massive potential with Tom Cleverley possibly ready to begin his break through.
Nolhman How much faith do you have in your claim? If it turns out to be, as expected, pure nonsense will you do the honourable thing and leave the forum?Never to return under any guise?
If I am wrong and we do sign a top midifilder e.g Wesley S, then I will be very happy because I was wrong and we bought a top midfielder which is great news. However, if I am right and we don't sign a top midfielder, I am not too worried as I expect Anderson to do well next season. Under Ferguson we will always compete. Therefore, nothing really to worry about. As for leaving the site. NAH. Without me here. You would be lucky to get a article a day to debate on. Simply no articles and no debates. It is imperative on a forum that debates arise. And the only debates on here, involve Utd fan users talking about Liverpool fans. Btw. I never stated we won't sign any players. I believe we will sign someone, just not a top midfielder.
There's been a fair bit of talk today about United signing Sneijder, Rob Beasley has reportedly been informed that a firm offer for Sneijder has been made and accepted and that the only tough negotiation to be done is over his wages which we are supposedly close to agreeing. Supposedly Sneijder wants to leave but doesn't want to say it and Milan want to sell but don't want to admit it. I would say that there's a good chance we will sign him but until a contract has been signed football can change very fast.
