There you have it folks, Uwe Rosler is the new Manager of Leeds Utd. The 46 year old described his appointment as a 'chance in a lifetime' “I’m not suicidal,” Rosler said. “If I didn’t see a chance to be successful with this club then I wouldn’t have taken that chance. “I had other opportunities but I chose this one because it was Leeds United. The owner is very passionate and I have passion. We all want to do the best for this club.” Rosler, who revealed that the job had been offered to him “at short notice”, said he warmed to Cellino during discussions between them. “It was very interesting and I really enjoyed it,” he said. “He’s a very knowledgeable football man. I showed him a presentation of my style of play and we discussed a lot of football. He has got a pretty good idea of what I’m looking for in terms of recruitment.” Rosler is expected to raid his former club of James McClean. The 26 year old wide man is available on a free transfer as his contract runs out in the Summer. The appointment of Rosler brings the tally up to five in the last twelve months. Adam Pearson made a statement yesterday saying Redfearn would be welcome to return to the academy. Can anyone see that happening?
Morning Elland and all. I'd be happy with Cook getting a contract extension, I'd be happy with Rosler and I'd be happy with Redders back at the academy. Would also be happy with Pearson if only ..................there was no Cellino. But there is and hell **** it all up again
I think most of us will have reservations about the club this close season, simply because we've seen it all before. We have a fruit loop owner, a decent director who could pull things together if given a chance, a manager/coach who may make a good job of it if given the backing and Cellino stays out of things and keeps his gob shut. We may end up with an academy leader who could carry on the good work he started but fear he would be a sulker and could be a bad influence at TA within the squad. So for me its just wait and see and don't be surprised if it goes Pete Tong again
Good morning to Matt and co from a very sunny Bardsey I suggested yesterday that McLean would be a likely addition if Rosler became manager Al Habsi could be another and yes Cook did sign a new contract a couple of weeks ago Rosler maybe a good appointment and no Redders after what MC called him will not be going back to the academy I think by calling him a baby made sure he wouldn't want to have anything to do with MC Lets hope we have some good signings now MC has no excuse re fair play rules as long as he invests from his own pocket
Morning all, Like the idea of playing a high tempo German style of football, not too impressed though with aiming for a top ten finish. Strange target and not very ambitious. Also didn't Rosler say we'd be signing mainly foreign players as they're cheaper?
Re Cooks contract. Wasn'nt it just a years extension, because he's contracted to us anyway to the end of next season, and now til the end of 2017
Also said we are bringing an assistant, a first team coach and a head of recruitment and that Rosler will have influence on signings. Unlike many here would have liked to see what Redfearn could have done with those resources and a pre-season and a team of his choices but not to be and time to move on. Well I say move on but I think that will be decided soon - either by a takeover or another ban. Because otherwise it will be the same old night at the circus again. I actually think a top ten finish this season is not only sensible but reasonably ambitious. Rosler's not walking into a settled squad where the manager has moved on to a bigger job that has been moving in the right direction. He's walking into a very varied squad that he doesn't know that reflects various influences. He's not really going to know what he's got or how it really performs until Christmas, some people who performed under Redfearn will drop away under Rosler and other people who didn't get chances will be (re)discovered under Rosler. With patience, stability and support then we can use this season to really see what we've got and what we're missing for next season, but if we become impatient and start sacking then it'll be time to start all over again (and again).... Alternatively of course if we do have a bit of stability and start making progress then expect to see untaxed toys flying out of untaxed prams shortly after.....
I think saying we're aiming for a top ten finish covers a lot of bases, there's 10 positions in a top ten finish. I like Rosler, I hope he does adapt attacking style play cos we've missed it last season except for a few earlier games. DBC, I agree, it's a whole new ball game under Rosler, and I think a few players are going to come back down to earth with a crash. I hope Adryan stays, we need a ball player like him in front of opposing defences, he knows how to set up and feed strikers too.
I think we'll be in a minority on this but I actually agree on Adryan, I know he's a show pony and not sure how he'd work in a strong fitness, high pressing team like Rosler is planning to establish but I did find him exciting and although I don't think there's a chance he would stay or be kept on I would actually like to keep the admittedly luxury item just for the excitement factor.
Adryan: If he's kept he would be great in the hole meaning Sharp would get service and score whilst Adryan would score a bag full - maybe not then needing another striker. Playing that way means we need beef in midfield with flair and skill and if I remember Rosler scored his goals from the hole and Adryan has more skill than him and Beardsley put together. However he is a show pony and may not make the grade over here. Another concern for me is the kids who came good, will they have the same buzz and confidence under Rosler, will Rosler know what he's got or will he leave it to get mouldy on the bench or U21's
Afternoon all - That is to keep the fans happy, Cellino did enough in the build up to replacing Redfearn to ensure he doesn't take his old position back up including calling him a baby.
