As far as I can tell he looks good enough for sure. Generally speaking if a defender is capable of putting in immense performances at the most crucial times then they are worth holding on to.

He's only 24/25 and something like 6 foot 5 which certainly doesn't hurt. I like to have some big lads in the team.

I don't agree mate. Were a very big club playing in arguably the best leagues in the world! We just need to spend more wisely !

Depends on your definition of big. We've battled with relegation for the last 8 seasons, won nowt for decades and we're situated online of the most economicly depressed areas of Europe. As we've seen before this means throwing stupid money at average players which doesn't bode well. Agree we need to be better st recruitment . This now becomes a crunch season for Congerton.

I mean big as in great facilities, great stadium, great fans, can match most teams in terms of wages!

Totally agree Tees. Our problem is, we are not a glamorous club in the biggest league in the world.

And our recent history, as in, the last 8 or 9 years in the PL, is one of continuous relegation battles, ever-changing managers, lack of quality in the squad due to poor signings and an apparent lack of both medium and long term vision of where the club is going.

What we desperately need is a manager for the next 2 to 3 seasons, with the depth of knowledge and experience of old eggnog. Someone who can build on the basics we have now, in time for next season, and the season after.

And that's down to Mr Short.

So, the question is, what has he learned in the last 2 months?

If the wages are right we are glamorous enough. Most clubs outside the super bracket ones would give their eye teeth for support like ours and we are an event waiting to happen. DA has proved in seven games what we are made of and with the new Sky revenue and guaranteed Prem football continental players will be looking for a move to England.

We're not mate. Keane had the same problem a few years ago. He had an open cheque book, spent a lot of money, £10m on a a goalie, etc. but he admitted he struggled to attract quality players.

He said for example, how, during transfer negotiations, some players would be more concerned about their wives or girlfriends. Comments about shopping facilities in the town for ****s sake, now that may have been tongue-in-cheek to some extent, but I bet the basis of it is true.

We're a long way from the cosmopolitan cities and that remains an issue for signing quality footballers.

    Nothing's changed since then.

What we need to be able to achieve is signing the type of players that the likes of Swansea can sign. Another non-glamorous city but with a successful transfer record.
