http://sport.bt.com/sport-football/news/england-can-be-able-without-kane-S11363982117788 Southgate is to announce his squad for the u21 Championships today. This could be a big chance for England to win or at least do well in a tournament. The above article is our own talking head, JWP, saying that England can win this without Harry Kane. Kane has already said he wants to play and Pochettino has said he will have to miss the beginning of next season if he does....so what, we're only talking about 1 or 2 games. Same could be said of James, but no one is stopping him. Shaw has also indicated that he wants to play....I understand van Gaal's problem with this as Luke seems to need nurturing. JWP talks of the team spirit in the squad, so it is a moot point whether to stick with the players who got them this far (which does include Kane) or parachute some stars in. Interesting to see the squad...England should stay firm and insist that players are released.
I feel very strongly about this...playing for your country is an honour at any level. This is a major tournament and a fantastic experience for any player...it isn't right that players are too big headed to play or clubs refuse to let them go (without a valid reason). Have to say it is good to see youngsters come out and say they want to play....well done, Shaw and Kane. As for Ince...very misguided...acting like the big 'I am' when I doubt he will ever get the chance to play for England at senior level. I think the senior squad would be improved if the bulk of it had been successful at the lower age groups.
The key to Germany's success in the last World Cup was that the core of the squad all played together at U21 level. This tournament represents the best hope England have had for decades at building a decent senior squad for the future. Of course players should be released, it doesn't require any thought at all. Luke Shaw would be better off playing for the U21's for the next couple of years anyway!
Agree with every word, also something I'm very passionate about, as Chilco said the Germans success came from this, I remember when we played the Germans in a final (not sure which age group) n got spanked 4/5 - 0. It wasn't long before WC 2010 - when we got spanked in the last 16 4-1 to a team containing Ozil, Muller etc. n they said we didn't have a single starter from the age final previously whereas they had about 5, it's not coincidence. Infact it's gonna annoy me now so I might have to check.
Found it: The german team in that u21 final in 2009 was: Neuer, Beck, Howedes, Boateng, Boenisch, Hummels (Aogo 83), Johnson (Schwaab 68), Castro, Khedira, Ozil (Schmelzer 89), Wagner. Look how many of those have been a big part of Germanys team since, now compared to our starting line up that day: Loach, Cranie (Gardner 80), Richards, Onuoha (Mancienne 46), Gibbs, Cattermole, Muamba (Rodwell 77), Noble, Milner, Walcott, Johnson. Out of the startling 11's, Germany had Neuer, Boateng, Kheidira Ozil and Muller start in South Africa against us. We had Milner.
JWP and Targett in provisional squad. With Chambers, that's 3 from our Academy. Kane included, but not Shaw.
Full Squad: Goalkeepers: Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham), Jonathan Bond (Watford), Jack Butland (Stoke City) Defenders: Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Luke Garbutt (Everton), Ben Gibson (Middlesbrough), Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal, loan to West Ham), Michael Keane (Burnley), Liam Moore (Leicester City), John Stones (Everton), Matt Targett (Southampton) Midfielders: Tom Carroll (Tottenham, loan to Swansea), Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea), Will Hughes (Derby County), Jake Forster-Caskey (Brighton & Hove Albion), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), Alex Pritchard (Tottenham), Nathan Redmond (Norwich City), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) Forwards: Benik Afobe (Wolves), Patrick Bamford (Chelsea, loan to Middlesbrough), Saido Berahino (West Brom), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Danny Ings (Burnley), Cauley Woodrow (Fulham)
That initial squad of 27 will be cut at the beginning of June to the final 23 man squad for the Championships.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-manchester-united-what-next-for-the-teenager Article about Shaw and the problems he's been having leading to him not being in the u21's squad. Hope he has a good season next year, but maybe he should of stayed here a bit longer.
Brilliant. Whats the story behind this? Sorry, I don't know what level this is. You can bet your life it beats my being selected to play volleyball for Norwich
