Evening all from the beautiful island of Corsica. My internet connection comes and goes like a well-known football club owner. I have been her since Saturday evening and since then have had some superb meals and drinks. The weather has been fine and warm, around 28-30°C and the Med is warm enough for a swim. A number of long walks along the white sandy beach should be good for me, but doubt that I will make it from one end to the other as it is about 11 km. Sat in a bar today for some lunch overlooking the harbour at Porto-Vecchio. Parked the car in the harbour car park where they demanded 50 cents for an hour long stay. When the ticket came out I discovered it was for three hours due to the ticket machine requiring a two hour lunch break. However things are changing here with what was a single beach bar now sporting six restaurants and part of the sand taken over by private sun loungers. This was on Palombaggia beach which has been described as the most famous one on the island as it was used in the Bounty bar adverts making people believe it was in the Caribbean. I am so glad that we do not have to go through the play offs as I can enjoy this time and not worry if the internet will hold up. Keep the news coming, I log in when possible for a read. please log in to view this image

Also we are told Ragnar Jónsson has a book it the best selling position in the UK, his book is Snowblind or Snjóblinda. The title of Ragnars book shows how similar english is to viking languages.
Will have to look out for that one - am partial to Nordic crime novels, but have read all of my favourite author's books (Jo Nesbo)
OFH, I'm sure the bounty adverts were filmed on Finikodassos (Palm Beach) on Crete. We drove there once, had a sleep in the car park then drove back to the hotel, two hours drive away!!

My old 1990s guide to the island said they had filmed there, but it is not mentioned in the 2006 one that I am using now. Who knows!
Not sure this has been posted or not, but it is a good read. http://footballpink.net/2015/05/21/4406/?
This is well worth a read too... http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...eague__Deeney_s_journey_is_different_to_most/
Great read BB and thank you for sharing. Love the bit about his GCSEs - seem to remember Wayne Rooney copping a lot of ridicule for doing the same thing so perhaps being at a club that is always under the radar is not such a bad thing! Also goes to show that if you're a footballer who does not play golf there's more to do than just play video games...
I thought it was an inspired piece, and thanked Frank Smith for it personally. I can use that at school - having a couple of budding journalists in my class, as well as a couple of football-playing, potential troublemakers.
Evening all from a warm but sightly overcast Corsica. Today we traveled north to the town of Bastia, somewhere that we have not explored before. The ferry from the mainland had arrived and was tied up in the harbour. About 400 m from the ferry there was a lot of noise coming from a bar. Not that unusual, but it wasn't French, German or Dutch noise, they all sound different to the noise we heard. Then we noticed a form of English being spoken, so had a look to see what was going on. There was a lot of blue and yellow lycra, and across the back of the shirts it said Dunfermline Cycling Club. I don't know if they had just arrived and made it into the first bar they came across, but they we certainly bringing a smile to the owner of the bar judging by the number of empty bottles and filled glasses on the tables.

Attendance was 451.
I seem to have a connection today with the outside world. A gentle day of books, football, food and wine with plenty of sun cream rubbed into the exposed bits that do not normally see daylight. Listened in to the play off final via Hornet player. One very excited Norwich commentator or a very dour Boro one. Compared to Jon Marks they are not very good. Off to the south of the island tomorrow which is very spectacular with the towns built on the rocks hundreds of feet above the sea. Quite likely to hear some of the local language down there. Up here there has been a German invasion over the weekend. Not many French or English about, they tend to come later when it becomes too hot and busy for my liking. Think my glass needs a top up.
"At least 10 people are reported to have been killed by a tornado that hit the northern Mexico border city of Ciudad Acuna." Hope all is well with you Mex.
