...Ashley [may] sell the club - so ultimately would that make them happy to see the back of their owner ?
Newcastle United relegation may force sale...

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is likely to sell the club if the team is relegated, former club chairman Freddy Shepherd has said.

He would not sell if they went down as he would lose too much money, IMO.

They are stuck with him until such a time that he buys Rangers, simple as that, regardless of league.

He would sell the club at - £90-100m (the t v money) and would Ellis short sell SAFC ? if we went down. Where will QPR finish up ? they have to use their academy for the next 4 or 5 seasons, there is no quick fix.

He'd only sell the club with a facet that all debts and loans, all hand outs he has put in, everything, he gets back, plus a tidy profit.

You'd be looking at £150 million plus and nobody will touch that outside the Premier League.

You know, rivals they may be, but somebody could make that club, and ours, something special, with some bravery and a speculate to accumulate attitude.

If it meant getting rid of him, I'd take relegation now. Problem is, I think the MA problem is exacerbated if we did get relegated. We definitely would not come back up straight away!

Well my take on it is that Ashley is a proper ****.
However, I think he's doing a cracking job & I'd buy the fat bastard a pint anytime.

There's no way he will sell if we go down. He's a gambler and he'll like the odds of a modest investment (£20-£30m) for a good promotion shot with a pay-off of premiership income if it works out. In fact I think it our best chance of him actually investing in the playing staff, last time we went down he brought they made efforts to hang on to players and then brought in a handful in the season (I suspect more than we have in any season since).

If however the option was relegation and him going or staying up and him staying then its a no brainer. I want to enjoy watching Newcastle and actually support the team and club and I cannot do that with Ashley around. I don't care so much about the division.

I'm torn as to Newcastle get relegated it's been 6 points for us - considering all I'd prefer Hull to go down

I would much rather see hull drop than Newcastle.
I love the Derby, I loathe Steve Bruce and dislike playing hull.

But so long as it's not us that drop I'm not too bothered really

Not very as I don't think he would have actually done THAT much better. If you see the teams we have played since he left, you will see what I mean. This is still his shambolic squad.

Well we may not have gone down under him but we would not be that far off. He can be as smug as he likes but he still went on a four game losing streak and poor old Palace will be subject to that a lot more next season.

Think that's a little poisoned rose-tinted glasses there QWOP!

He'd have done alright by you guys and you wouldn't be crapping yourselves on how Hull do this weekend.

I have no doubt we wouldn't be in this position. We would only be a few points better off though and I am 100% certain on that. If (big if) we stay up and if (even bigger if) we bring in a half competent manager, we will be in a much better position next season.

<laugh> Incidentally, I was in your neck of the woods the other day. The sad thing is, I only pieced together Sandy and Blunham as I drove past them on the way to my destination!!!

I don't move far from the tree!

Next time you've got time, pull off the A1 into Blunham. There's only 1 pub and there's only 1 mackem in the pub. Ask for me, and after you've wiped the venom off your clothes, they'll point me out! <ok>
