Off Topic Hitch the Gay - Yay or Nay!

Apparently there is now a councelling service set up in this country for children who were fathered by the catholic clergy......

This referendum is another waste of taxpayers money when we are in a period of austerity, especially the part about lowering the age when someone is eligible to stand for the role of President.....there are more important things that the government should be getting on with......

It sounds like you have a proliferation of homosexuals in your life. It just sounds a bit odd, that's all.

 

Might be slightly controversial but I think you have to be a bit thick to vehemently oppose gay marriage.

Personally don't see much need for it, as I don't see much need for marriage at all in modern life, but if two blokes want to put their cocks in a bloke's arse rather than a vagina and sign a bit of paper to say they love each other, great for them.

What actually caught my eye (quoted below) was that you appear to have so many gay friends & relatives that you were able to carry out a poll (granted its just anecdotal from your own personal experiences & from a relatively small number of participants) which suggests 90% of the gay population aren't interested in marriage. Considering the gay population is only 5% - or one in 20 - that means that either you have literally hundreds of friends and hundreds of relatives whom you're in semi-regular contact with or you mix in circles that have a very high percentage of gay people and your relatives, for reasons I can only postulate (but decide not to), are extremely disproportionately given toward homosexual activity.

The reason I find it rather odd is in relation to your contributions on the recent Election thread where you were the most vociferous Conservative on this entire Board in that debate.

Yes I vote conservative, because I believe that their policies are the best for the nation and the people. and yes, I believe that the left, with their penchant for big government, big state dependency, high tax and spend and disregard for business and wealth-creation have become a spent force in politics, as the recent election demonstrated.

But that has nothing to do with my personality, my friends, my family, or - to be frank - this discussion.

For the record, because I can see it's the only way for you to get your kicks, I have a great many friends that are actors or connected with the theatre and dance. It's a bit of a stereotype, but the percentage of openly gay people in that sphere is higher than in others. Though them, a lot of people I know are gay, even though I don't necessarily see them that often. We have discussed this issue, however, over a number of years when it was being debated here, and it really didn't make a great deal of difference to them. Certainly not as much as it seems to make to you.

And yes, I'm fortunate to have a large, close-knit family.

Any indication how the Irish vote is likely to compare?

 

I'd imagine it will be a fiercely fought battle between the slightly inbred West voting against and the considerably less inbred North, South and East voting for with for winning roughly 70-30

Really all to play for, a lot of people don't say they will vote no for fear of ridicule, yes people more vociferous.

Younger people hugely in favour, elderly - especially men - not so.

There is a campaign in Britain and further afield called ' the boat to vote" which encourages those abroad to return home just to vote. Heard a program about it in which one guy was spending about a thousand euro just to get home to vote.
