They are voting on the constitutional CIVIL right for gay/lesbian marriage, not to get married in a ****ing Church surrounded by ignorant bigots. No one is asking the Church to change its stance, I hope they don't, all the sooner that people will see through their pathetic prejudices.

What right has the Church got to voice an opinion on the rights of anybody?

    Equal rights it's that simple

I equally have the right to reject overly gay behaviour in my presence
So my own line is if a person pushes an erect penis in my face because they think they can I have the right to defend myself and bite if necessary

Selling butt plugs on market stalls in Brighton during pride week in front of families is not right

Marriage I thought means love so it's fine with me honky tonks

Has to be a 'couldn't care less' for me.

None of my gay friends or relatives seem to have the slightest interest in getting married, even though they have been able to do so for years here. That doesn't seem to be because because of any perceived inequality, it just appears to be (judging by the conversations I've had with them) that the majority of gay people don't really seem to care one way or the other, they just want to be able to live peacefully with their loved ones. It's the more militant section of the population that are determined to make this a big issue - like those who deliberately court situations where they might have a chance to sue for discrimination and make the papers. They (like the people who book hotel rooms at clearly Christian establishments without mentioning that they are gay, and then seeing what the reaction is, with the worst case scenario being they get a nice holiday) are not really appreciated outside the media luvvies circles, because they don't really represent the attitude of at least 90% of the gay population.

So yeah - my position is that of my gay circle of friends - don't really care, it won't change anything for them.

If the Church's survival hinges on gay marriage rather than the ethics that were literally set in stone then you might as well scrap it.

To be honest, that one always sounds like a desperate attempt to add credibility to personal intolerance.

Tolerating intolerance is cowardice (Ayaan Hirsi Ali, i'm not smart enough to come up with that). While I'm happy enough for people to believe in what they like be that a sky daddy or a magic pixie who rides a unicorn whilst listening to Bach as soon as it infringes equality and human rights they can go **** themselves, well that doesn't happen that much does it? ;)

How can you be so sure?

God himself said through divine dictation in Leviticus that "If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Saint Augustine gives us clear instruction on homosexuality: “Sins against nature, therefore, like the sin of Sodomy, are abominable and deserve punishment whenever and wherever they are committed. If all nations committed them, all alike would be held guilty of the same charge in God’s law, for our Maker did not prescribe that we should use each other in this way. In fact, the relationship that we ought to have with God is itself violated when our nature, of which He is Author, is desecrated by perverted lust.”

Pope Benedict showed the depth of Christian compassion when he said: "Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered to an intrinsic moral evil, and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder."

His Holiness, although infallible and perfect, was too appeasing regarding Sodomites in my opinion. Taking a weak stance such as that has given their perverse debauchery a fresh impetus which has and will continue to corrupt our children's innocence and lead only to a destruction of morals resulting in vice and wickedness in society for the foreseeable future.

Who are we to go against such clear and sacred instruction, Finglas?

They've only been able to so so since last year. The Anglican Church of England (although heretics) managed to stave off this awful disease up until the year of our Lord 2014 AD. I fear we may be defeated here 12 months later.

Sorry Swords but I'm not religious. I just believe we are all equal and ALL forms of discrimination should be eliminated.

We only live once. Who am I to deprive someone of happiness on the grounds I don't like the sexual orientation they were born with?

Coincidentally, the "Gay Cake" controversy has been resolved today in Belfast. A detestable ruling by an increasingly fascistic secularist Judiciary. Where will it all end?

I'm curious. Just how many gay friends and relatives have you got?

I have spoken to God and She said She would prefer it if we were all atheists!!

I have also written this down on the back of a *** packet so that in thousands of years time people can spend huge amounts of time arguing about its validity and using it for their own ends.

Considering some of the appalling historic behaviour of priests and the Church in Eire, it is all the more hypocritical that they might condemn gays. Live and let live says I.

Yes, why should homosexuals be spared the despair and anguish of being married?
