None of that, which incidentally only happened towards the end of his City career, made any difference to the way that he carried himself, and at times the team for that matter, on the pitch. There may be debates about who has been our best ever manager but there is no contest when it comes to our best ever captain, Ashbee is head and shoulders above anyone else, and if you wish to dampen that down by bringing Bullard into the equation then you have my pity.

Amen. People seem to want to drag players down these days. No idea why. Gerrard had a great career, superb player yet the kid gets abuse.
On Saturday at half time there was a tribute to Greavesy, applause all round the ground. If he was playing now there'd be hatred for him everywhere.
No one's perfect, focus on their attributes and ability.

People take cocaine because of stress? I thought they took it because it was very exciting. Heroin or marihuana sounds more like something to take for stress. Not that I'd really know.

Can cocaine be bought in Hull or would Jake have had to get some from elsewhere? I don't want any in case you're wondering.

I've been offered coke or speed many times, mostly for free. I've always refused it
Dear god how could have done with Ashbee in our squad this season.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make Kemps, unfortunately Ferriby Tiger preferred to highlight the negative at the end of Ash's City career.

With thanks to EG on CI But this made me piss myself <laugh>

I once played semi-professional whilst on MDMA. A team mate scored, we all went in for a team hug celebration and I clung to him for 15 minutes.

Does anyone know what this "dark trauma" (to quote the papers) that Livermore went through this year is?

I think OLM had said earlier in this thread that he had seen on Facebook that his girl friend had lost their child, but wasn't sure whether that was true or not.

Livermore will get the result of his B test today and will appear before the FA on Thursday, ahead of his case being handed over to the anti-doping people.

Listening to RH it would appear (shock horror) that recreational drug use is very common among football players and that the sport governing body are the ones fighting against tighter testing

I think the answer is to push testing down to club level with players being tested on a frequent & routine basis. Presumptive testing kits are cheap for most recreational drugs & should be part of the normal training systems with tests on a weekly basis between games.

It is not so easy with performance enhancing drugs but football should be dealt with on the same basis as athletics where a player must state where they will be available for 1 hour of every day & can be tested at random either during or outside the football season

I believe that's already the case in football.

I dont understand why it's random testing. This is the richest league in the world - why arent all matchday squad players tested every single game? Everyone says it'll be too much hassle but why? Everyone on the bench tested in the half hour before kick off, the rest after the match. Piece of piss (excuse the pun). If they're serious about it then it's easy, testing a couple of players each match means a regular user could get away with it for half the season.

    No it isn't

Testing is almost always scheduled with the club & takes place at the training ground or at a stadium

There is no random testing away from these places.......there are top fight players who have not been tested in more than 2 years

This info came from the organisation responsible for testing in the UK

As most recreational drugs are out of the system in 48-96 hours matchday testing would miss lots of players .... I agree though I would do this along with midweek testing at training of every player

Compulsory drug testing would have to be introduced by the FA, the Premier League would never do it on their own, so it would have to apply to all league clubs. The logistics of doing over 1,600 drug tests every week would be a nightmare and would cost £100k a week, it's not going to happen.

    You're wrong there old fruit
I'd put Ashbee in my Top 10 favourite players of all time
But he didn't just pee it up at the end of his career he was always out even in the early Hull city part of his career
I don't think it made that much difference coz he always gave 100%

In football terms £100k a week is a drop in the ocean......the instant tests which can be used for most recreational drugs aren't expensive & the test is quick & easy.....

It would be the only way to reduce the use among players (it certainly wouldn't wipe it out)

I'm a great fan of Ash as well but as you say he would be out on the pop many times a week.....things just got worse under Bullards influence (wrecking his marriage)
