Good list Eamon. I would like to see that as a positive list. We need a total revamp of the squad. My first signing would be to bring back Mel Johnson as chief of all scouting operations with a license to advice Les and our new manager/Ramsey. Think he's still at Tottenham. And with us copying them might give us hope it is doable. The job he and Holloway did during the summer of our first season in League 1 was nothing short of sensational. Reminds of the mass recruiting we have ahead of us now.
The three in the "God knows" category could easily do a SWP for a year, which was my point. Thanks, Drog. Added.
I do take your point. There wasn't much to be said for SWP but at least he was a positive influence around the dressing room apparently. I suspect the club will get whatever it can for Taarabt and Traore in order to ship them out as priority. Taarabt in particular seems beyond restoration.
Good thread Eamon: very thought provoking. I would make the following decisions: PAST IT - LET GO Ferdinand SWP Zamora Hill Faurlin (will never be the same player; injury-prone) Murphy (we need a bright up and coming GK as understudy to McCarthy) Sandro (Not made much impact, injury prone) NOT UP TO IT - GET RID Traore Taarabt Diakite WOULD LIKE TO RETAIN BUT WAGES UNAFFORDABLE; AND/OR IN DEMAND Barton (might go to France; expensive) Fer (expensive and in demand) Austin (ditto) Green (ditto; but in any case we have McCarthy) LOAN PLAYERS None have been sufficiently outstanding to be retained. Vargas a bad egg; Isla not a FB; Kranjcar a luxury. OFFER NEW CONTRACT 1. Henry (one of our better performers in the EPL; will be good in Championship) 2. Dunne (has largely been effective in the EPL; will bulk up our squad with some experience) RETAIN, DESPITE INTEREST FROM ELSEWHERE 3. Phillips 4. Caulker (not really sure that many will want him; can only get better... surely?) 5. Onuoha (retain as a CB) RETAIN UNDER EXISTING CONTRACTS 6. McCarthy (first choice now that Green unaffordable) 7. Yun Suk Young 8. Hoilett (not that many other clubs will be interested in him; can scare defences in Championship) 9. Robinson 10. Donaldson YOUNGSTERS 11. Harriman 12. Sutherland 13. Comley 14. Pattie 15. Manning 16. Furlong 17. Lumley 18. Ehmer 19. Doughty 20. Reece Greco Cox That means releasing, one way or another,14 players and 4 loanees. That would leave us with 10 players with experience of varying degrees and 10, yes 10, kids. Scary. I really would prefer to have more continuity rather than recruit another new team as we have tried to do without much success on a number of occasions in recent years. We cannot rely on those kids, some of whom are not ready for regular first team football and some of whom never will be. It's going to be a busy Summer.
We should donate him to St Vincent De Paul or alike and claim his losses as a tax deduction. A shocking purchase. Keep in mind, Caulker stated that he was moving to QPR to be Rio's protege ............... ( why didn't we see the writing on the wall??????? ) Truth is, we should sell off every player except SWP. I'm told that Loftus Road pitch ( in front of the western goal end ) is in need of a new sprinkler head. The sprinkler heads are currently adjusted to spray short of goal and on either side of the goal mouth. The management is decided that SWP is best suited to replace the worn sprinkler head, being that he is knee high to a grasshopper and that he has spent the past four friggin years spraying the ball anywhere but in goal. Case closed .............. position filled, next! Let me also say that Eamon has written a very good thread.
Max Ehmer has had over 100 appearances in League 1 and is 23 years old. He's certainly not a kid anymore. Neither is Michael Doughty, over 50 appearances in League 1 and he's 22 years old. Decisions to be made on those 2, if we keep them then play them, if not then get rid. I'd personally like to see Ehmer given a chance at CB. He's learnt his trade in League 1 and has as good as chance as anyone from our Academy to step up and become a regular.
QPR want former Tottenham youngster Solueymane Coulibaly Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Solueymane Coulibaly is reportedly wanted by Queens Park Rangers. Former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Solueymane Coulibaly is attracting the interest of Queens Park Rangers, according to a report on Goal.com. Coulibaly was tipped for great things as a teenager, but he has failed to live up to his early promise and he is now looking for a new club. The Ivorian has spent time at Spurs and, more recently, in Italy, but he has never settled and is now looking for a more permanent home. QPR feel that Loftus Road could be the perfect place for the striker, as he fits in well with what they are trying to achieve next season. The R's are attempting to freshen up their squad by bringing in a number of promising youngsters, as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation to the Championship. The signing of Coulibaly would be a signal of their intent and he could be a bargain buy, if he does start to live up to his promise. The 20-year-old still has plenty of time to develop and he could be worth taking a gamble on for the London club.
With the spending restraints and FFP rules of the football league and the almost complete overhaul of our squad it's not looking so great. To stay within these rules it looks like we will have to buy really cheap from the lower divisions to keep within these current rules. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this?
