I roll my eye with the comments that the glory hunting idiots post on various "news" sites. They are still waiting for Liverpool to make a "big signing." Henderson and Adam are just not cutting it for the glory hunters. I'm not sure who will make them all happy, other than Arda Turan. Not that I think he is one of the worlds top players, but the glory hunters seem to like him. Would Mata be a big signing?? Or will we have to go get Messi to please them?

Personally, I don't have an opinion either way with Henderson or the new goalie, but I am delighted to get Adam, after the trouble he caused so many teams last season. But personally I would like to see Kenny fill the team with hard working players who play as a unit, rather than looking at eyecatching flair players who demand a pretty price.

Yeah, have often wondered what exactly constitutes a "big" signing?

I think just because someone wants a "big signing" doesn't make them a glory hunter...

Mata would be classed as a big signing, but would I want us to get Downing just because he's not a big signing? No. I want what's best for the club, and sometimes big signings are the best players, sometimes they're not.

It is possible for a big signing to be part of a team you know.

What we don't want or need is a Big Name marquee player who is signed purely because they are a big name - Morrientes comes to mind.

it really grinds my gears that on practically every post on the LFC website a load of muppets post the same comments repeatedly, "Kenny get mata & cissokho they iz mint" yes i was one of the first raving about mata but i trust kenny's judgement and will welcome anyone he see's fit to wear the red shirt

Spot on. Mata would be considered a "big" signing, but he can still add something to the squad.

At the moment with Henderson, Doni and Adam, I think they will move the club forward.

One problem a few supporters have is if we sign Downing, who isn't a "big" player, for around £20million, why don't we sign Mata who would be considered a "big" signing. He offers alot more, he is younger, sell one value and let's not forget "big" players sell shirts and increase revenue.

Very few, if any, of the fans calling for 'big' names have actually watched them week in week out like the numerous scouts at the club will have. Comolli will have spent literally weeks watching videos of players. I bet he's watch practically all of Aston Villas games last season, becuase, as we know, stats only tell a part of the story. He's in a better position to judge than anyone.

Forget big signings..The most important thing is new players add something to the team. Yes I rate Turan, but would rather see a player come in who's going to add to the team. We have top class in the likes of Johnson, Gerrard,Reina,Carroll and Suarez.

Makes me laugh when I see certain fans say "Get Downing" "Get Mata", more importantly get a player in who adds to the balance of the side..i.e a left back, and a center half.

I don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks. You don't win as much as he has if you don't know what you're doing.

The problem for someone like me is I'm old enough to have seen how the trend has changed over the last few decades to the point where people confuse stardom with quality.
It happens everywhere- Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage get the best roles when there are many far more capable actors about. Say "artist" and Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin spring to mind (don't even start me on that one). The same attitude says Boyzone are better than Beethoven because they've sold more records.
Popularity rules. It's become popular for people to want certain players because they've seen them display some impressive skill or trickery on the ball, without thinking about whether or not they'll complement the team.
Managers have to build a team, not stuff it with incompatible individuals who appeal to the fans thirst for big names. Let's wait and see who we buy and how they play before we pass judgement.

    Agreed.

Personally, I want us to sign a player based on skill and how they fit into the team. There is no point buying a 'big name' if they don't fit into the team.

And why is it that loads of our fans want Arda Turan?! There is a comment about Turan on every article on the Liverpool website!

    Who said this KPR :)

I agree with what you say re building a team rather than a set of good individuals.

    ( And Nicolas Cage is a **** actor )

Nothing against him personally, just think he's one dimensional and gets work through nepotism.

Liverpool need to focus on signing a new creative midfielder. Guittierez from Newcastle maybe?
