QPR's Chelsea transfer target Rob Green could snub Champions League glamour for the Championship 22:30, 16 May 2015 By Steve Bates Relegated Hoops' title-winning neighbours hope to sign the 35-year-old if Petr Cech leaves but he's considering staying until his deal expires next summer 16 Shares QPR goalkeeper Rob Green could STAY at Loftus Road for another season despite being offered an understudy role to Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People. Jose Mourinho would like Green to take over from Petr Cech as the champions’ reserve keeper behind Belgian star Courtois. But the former England international, 35, will be a free agent a year from now and may decide to give it one more season with QPR in the Championship. Green may have to go, though, if Rangers decide to sell him - they are looking to slash their hefty wage bill and he is one of their higher earners.
Thanks and goodbye. Hopefully he'll drop a clanger or two for the scum if he ever gets off the bench...
Thought McCarthy looked good yesterday. A few poor kicks but he'll come good for. Need to look to the future now.
I like Green, a good egg but I hope he is not part of the QPR omelette next season. Too old, too expensive, a legacy of a failed approach.
I'm expecting our management to sell Green, being that we have an able replacement. If the club is serious, TF will cull all players where relevant and clean the slate to start all over again. Part of this will be to show the FA that the club is serious in reducing debt and balancing the books. Probably fair to say we need a complete hose out to rid ourselves of the stigma of the past few seasons.
Has been a good pro with us, considering how Hughes **** on him, and deserves thanks for his contribution, hehas done a lot more good than bad in a Rangers shirt. That said, it's time to move to a younger squad and McCarthy's time is due. If we're to have a couple of wiser, experienced, heads I would prefer them in the middle where they can influence those around them.
What a great story! Rob Green might stay but then again he may well go. This could turn out to be a cliffhanger that keeps us in suspense during the summer. Nice one journo.
I agree, he also fumbled one shot, but I believe his time has come to assume the #1 spot, so perhaps time for Rob to move on - the #2 spot at Chelsea wouldn't be so bad for him to see out his career.
Green is cursed. Every team he plays for gets relegated. Some get promoted agin, but for them to stay up he has to leave. He has voodoo properties.
Yes. We should have used him more this season for his development and to make him feel he has a role. I suspect he is at least as good as Green. We should keep one of them, hopefully the younger.
