Lucas wasn't.

And you're right - Johnson and Skrtel were heavily involved last season. Involved in helping to concede 50 goals in 38 games.

 

If Skrtel hadn't have been there it would have been 80+

 

No chance. He's an awful defender who has been carried all throughout his career. Last season, his inabilities were masked by a world class attack. This season, he has Lovren next to him who makes Skrtel look like Baresi.

The only time Skrtel looked good this season was playing in a back 3 WITH Sakho next to him. Take Sakho out, Skrtel back to being mediocre. Similar to Suarez, quality players like Sakho make others look better.

 

So we'd have won the league if Sakho had played more? Gotcha

 

We would have won the league if we had a competent RCB and a DM.

But not sure what you're getting at - it's clearly evident this season that Skrtel is sh*te. He's played in a back 3 with and without Sakho. The difference in performances are clear to see ...

 

In not getting at anything. No point in is discussing the issue as we've done it to death and will never agree (on last season Skrtel) so I'm just winding you up

We've been without a quality DM since Mascherano left. We're just left with a sub-standard DM in the form of Lucas.

 

Lucas was a quality DM until his injury (knee?). Since then, he's been ok, but far superior to anyone else we had.

 

Yes that's true... but when he joined he seemed like a good signing. Pity we couldn't keep Arbeloa too.

To my mind Skrtel and Lucas are bench players for a top 4 side.

 

Was never quality IMO - he was good but he's nowhere near the class of someone like Hamann or Mascherano.

 

Exactly - there is a fine line between good/decent players and top 4/elite level. The players above fall on the wrong side of that line.

 

Completely agree... Would say we've only got three players you'd think would fit into a regular title challenging side - Sturridge, Coutinho, Sakho. Couple of others who wouldn't be out of place challenging for 4th - Hendo, Sterling, Mignolet. The rest all potential or never going to be good enough.
